OEM Towing Package

There are several reasons many Ridgeline owner's chose to replace the standard with the replacement front grille, but the main reason that I did is because it gives you that truck appearance.  There isn't anything wrong with the standard grille, I just think the Silver trim looks much better!  This accessory only took 30 minutes to install.

I originally planned on adding the OEM towing package when I purchased my Ridgeline in June '05, but the missus suggested I have it put on later (she just didn't want to add any more money to the purchase price).  Almost a year later (4/19/06), she said I can add it to my ride.  It was probably a "reward" since I made the decision to quit after 19 years of smoking as of 18 April 2006.  Here are some photos of the towing package out of the box (minus the trailer hitch...forgot to take a pic) and installed on my Ridgeline.

I checked online for the lowest price which I found at BernardiParts.com.  Again, I called my local dealership and they matched the price.  I was able to get the entire towing package for $514.89 (tax included).  The dealership was selling the towing package for $545.00, not including tax and installation fees, so I probably saved almost $150 off MSRP.

I received the installation instructions (dated FEB 2006), which states that vehicles produced prior to August 24, 2005 are not pre-wired for trailer back up lights.  The harness I received was P/N 08L91-SJC-100B, which I believe is the latest version providing power to the reverse (center) pin for trailers with surge brakes.  A 4-pin sub-harness is included with the package for use with electric brake controllers.

I chose to install the towing package myself since I enjoy tinkering and knew it would be a challenge.  It took me 2 1/2 hours with majority of the time spent bolting in the trailer hitch.  Trying to balance the hitch on my chest/feet while screwing in some bolts was really fun...yeah right!  Once everything was installed, I had to go out an buy a torque wrench and make sure the bolts were tightened to specs.  Now all I need to do is buy/rent a boat to verify that the wiring is good to go, then go Bass fishing!
