This is information I got from "The History of Montgomery
County, NC."
"The roots of the pioneer family were planted in Montgomery
in the 18th century and the family has participated in the life
and activities of the county for almost 200 years.
The first member of the Andrews family to reach Montgomery County
was John Andrews Sr., arrived from Brunswick County, Virginia
with his large family about 1782 hard upon the heels of his father-in-law,
John Scarborough,Sr. who came in 1785. Included in this pioneer
family were married sons John, Jr. and David ll and daughters
Sally, who married Samuel Clark, and Lucretia, who married William
Scarborough. Eldest son Alexander arrived in January 1795 from
Virginia with his large family.
After buying land and getting settled, John Andrews, Sr. began
looking into the spiritual needs of the community. In 1790 he
marshalled his several sons and sons-in-law and built in the
Northwest section of Mount Gilead a small log church which was
named "Providence" but soon came to be known as the
"Scarborough Meeting House" due to the attendance of
so many Scarboroughs. This log structure became the first Methodist
church to be established in Mount Gilead and was used until it
was replaces by another building erected on the site of the present
church. This site was eventually deeded to the church in 1854
by Sally Andrews Clark, a daughter of John Andrews, Sr.
About 1804 four sons of John Andrews,Sr., David ll, James, George,
and Anderson with their families and some kinfolk accompanied
by James Scarborough,Sr. James,Jr., John Scarborough,Jr. and
their families joined the stampede to the new state of Tennessee
and settled permanently in Stewart County. Alexander Andrews,
the eldest son of John Andrews,Sr. remained in the PeeDee area
where he owned a large amount of land. The Andrews family is
subsequently is descended from him and his sons Seth (1784-1843),
Edmund (1794-1843), and Wilson (1796-1848). The three branches
began:
Issue of Seth Andrews: John F. (1810-1859); Edmund ll (1820-1890?);
Seth, Jr, (1814-1885?); three daughters (names unavailable).
Edmund Andrews married Priscilla Hancock and their issue was
Julius A. born 1831; Mary E. born 1833; Frances A. born 1835;
Laura W. born 1838; Arthur T. born 1840; Jane A. born 1843.
The issue of Wilson and Mary G. Andrews: James C. 1820-?; Alex
W. 1822-1854; Asbury 1827-?; Henry G. 1830-1856; Eli F. 1833-?;
Martha J. (Livingston) 1835-1918; Richmond G. 1835-1861; Nathaniel
K. 1838-1862; Mary F. 1840-?.
Numberwise, the family peaked in the Mt. Gilead - PeeDee areas
shortly before the outbreak of the War Between the States, that
tragic event in which the family has considerable involvement
and at heavy cost. Known casualties in the Confederate army are
as follows:
Edmund Andrews ll, 23rd Regiment N.C. Troops, son of Seth Andrews,
Sr. Wounded at Seven Pines, Richmond, Va. May 31, 1862 and issued
a medical discharge shortly there after.
Cyrus P. Andrews, 28th Regiment N.C. Troops, son of John F. Andrews
and grandson of Seth Andrews, Sr. Killed in action at Gaines
Mill, Va June 28,1862.
Thomas S. Andrews, 28th Regiment N.C. Troops, son of John F.
Andrews, Sr. and grandson of Seth Andrews, Sr. Died at Gordonsville,
Va. September 30, 1862.
William H. Andrews, son of Seth Andrews Jr. and grandson of Seth
Andrews, Sr. Enlisted in 1861 at the age of 17 and was sent home
a few months later with "fever" where he died August
16, 1861.
Richmond G. Andrews, 19th N.C. Troops 2nd Calvary, son of Wilson
Andrews. Died of disease at Camp Washington, Chowan County, November
29,1861.
Nathaniel K. Andrews, 28th Regiment N.C. Troops, son of Wilson
Andrews. Died at Winhester, Va. December 1,1862."
There is more about George W. Andrews and Mrs Ellen {Tabitha
Eleanor Lassiter} Andrews {wife of Eli Franklin Andrews} I can
send if it is part of your line. Let me know if there is anything
else you might need on Seth Andrews. He is my ggg grandfather
so we have a lot of information on him and his decedents.
Notes for MARY SCARBOROUGH:
"A unknown daughter of the John Scarbrough who came to Montgomery
County, North Carolina in 1785 is known to have have married
an unknown Andrews and had daughters named Lucretia and Sallie
(Grand-daughters of John Scarbrough); this strongly suggests
that she had sisters or a mother with the same name(s). Lucretia
Andrews (born 1778) married William Scarborough, "Sr."
while Sallie married Samuel Clark; both of the latter marriages
appear to have taken place in Montgomery County, North Carolina."
Children of JOHN ANDREWS and MARY SCARBOROUGH are:
3. i. ALEXANDER4 ANDREWS, b. Abt. 1763.
ii. ANDERSON ANDREWS, b. Abt. 1765; d. Stewart Co., TN9.

The Family of John Andrews, Sr., by Elsie Lowder Edwards,
taken from the "Andrews Family" by Martha Jane Andrews
Almond and Edward Almond, Sr., on file in the Mt.Gilead, NC Library,
identifies John Andrews, Sr as arriving in Montgomery County
in 1787 from Brunswick Co, Va. His wife, whose first name is
unknown, was the daughter of John Scarborough, Sr., who arrived
in the same county in 1785. They also discuss the departure of
the four Andrews brothers to Stewart Co, TN in the company of
the Scarborughs. Identifies the children of John Andrews, Sr.,
as the same as shown in your email. The first name "Mary"
was obtained from Alex Scarborough of LIttleton, CO and also
Norman Ricker.
Another document, History of Mt. Gilead, NC, identifies Sallie
Andrews Clark as a granddaughter of John Scarborough, Sr, and
as the wife of Samuel Clark. She gave two acres of land in Mt.
Gilead for the ME Church on 29 Dec 1854.
