PAN - A Newsreader for GNOME and More
When ever I want to read USENET newsgroups, I use Pan to do it. Previously I would use Forte Agent in Windows, but when I started using Linux, I needed to find an alternative. Pan is the closed I have found to Agent. Pan is available for Windows and Linux, and can run in GNOME, KDE, and BLACKBOX/FLUXBOX. Today I was learning how to use scores. Scores allow you to assign a score to a particular author. Say you frequent a binaries group where a certain poster always submits really nice photos (say of Paris, France), you could assign a score of 100 (or whatever) to all posts made by that author. Then using score filters, you can find his or her posts easier. Have a poster who always posts spam or crap, assign them a negative score and then filter out all negative scored posts. Very handy for screening out spam in newsgroups.
