2007 Adult League Rules

  1. Virginia Tennis will abide by and enforce local Adult League rules.  Virginia Adult Leagues will generally follow the framework of the 2007 USTA/Virginia Tennis Adult League Rules. Local league rules will govern play.

 

  1. League fees per player include:
    1. $16 Virginia Tennis fee to be collected when a player registers online using TennisLink.

                                                               i.      The $16 Virginia Tennis fee will not be refunded once local league play has begun.

    1. $3.91 Active.Com fee requirement to use TennisLink (This fee set by Active.Com and collected when a player registers online using TennisLink and is non-refundable.)
    2. $28 RVTPA fee, which includes $15 for Hollins court usage to be collected when a player registers online using TennisLink, which will not be refunded once local league play has begun.
    3. $1.50 Mid-Atlantic fee to be collected when a player registers online using Tennis Link.

 

  1. Additional players may be added to TennisLink Team Rosters at any time prior to June 14, 2007 but must play no less than 2 matches.  If there is a local league playoff those matches DO NOT count towards the required 2 matches for the Adult League Championship.

 

  1. The Adult league roster limit is 14 players for 2007 season, which may be waived at discretion of the Area Leagues Coordinator.

 

  1. Teams in Flights more than one year old, ex. M3.5 flight competed in 2006, may contain no more than 25% of players at a lower NTRP rating.   This may be waived at discretion of Area League Coordinator to facilitate a new flight, ex. M4.5 did not compete in 2006.

 

  1. All league match results must be reported on TennisLink by the winning team captains, or designee, within 72 hours of the team match.

 

  1. The losing captain or designee must log into TennisLink and confirm or dispute the match scores within 48 hours after scores have been reported.

 

  1. Location of play and Automatic Rainout Rescheduling regulations:

 

8.a. All matches are played at the Batten Tennis Center,  a private facility at Hollins University.  

 

8.b. Rained out matches are automatically rescheduled as follows:  Monday/Tuesday matches to the next Saturday, and Wednesday/Thursday matches to the next Sunday at the Batten Tennis Center, Hollins University.   ‘Early’ Monday/Tuesday rained out matches are played at 1:00pm the following Saturday, and ‘early’ Wednesday/Thursday rained out matches are played at 1:30 the following Sunday.  ‘Late’ Monday/Tuesday rained out matches are played at 2:45 the following Saturday, and ‘late’ Wednesday/Thursday rained out matches are played at 3:15 pm the following Sunday.  Teams may request Friday night to replay a rained out match – both Captains must agree to make such a request to the Area League Coordinator, who will reserve the courts and confirm to both captains.

 

8. c. Captains must contact the Area League Coordinator within 24 hours of a rainout.   Area League Coordinator maintains the Rescheduled Court reservations and will confirm rescheduling by e-mail.   This is necessary to avoid double booking of private courts at Batten Tennis Center, Hollins University.

 

8. d. Matches may only be rescheduled or moved outside of the Automatic Weekend Rescheduling or optional Friday night under extenuating circumstances and only with agreement of both captains and Area League Coordinator.

 

8. e. RAINOUTS MUST BE RESCHEDULED AND PLAYED WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE   ORGINAL SCHEDULED DATE.    IN THE EVENT THE RESCHEDULED MATCH IS RAINED OUT, IT MUST BE RESCHEDULED AGAIN AND PLAYED WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE 2ND RAINOUT, ETC.

 

  1. Match format is best of 5 courts: 2 singles courts and 3 doubles courts.

 

  1. Scoring is best of two sets using regular scoring and a set tiebreak at six games-all in each set.  Winner of a ‘set tiebreak’ is 1st team to reach 7 points and win by 2.  In the event of split-sets, a match tiebreak in lieu of a third set shall be played immediately following the two-minute end-of-set rest period.  Winner of a ‘match tiebreak’ is 1st team to reach 10 points and win by 2.

 

  1. Coman tie-break rule will be followed:  Change sides after 1st point, and every 4th point, until completion of tie-breaker.

 

  1. Home team, which appears 1st on schedule, ex.  M3.5A vs. B, team A supplies a new can of balls for each court.

 

  1. Evening matches start promptly at 6:00 pm. Warm-ups are to be completed prior to evening match start time. 

 

  1. Night matches start promptly at 7:45 unless the court is not available, in which case match begins as soon as a. court is available and b. players have completed warm-up .  Warm-ups limited to 15 minutes, are to be completed prior to the start of night matches

. 

  1. Matches start promptly at the appointed time.  Opponent is defaulted if not present and able to play after 15 minutes past the appointed starting time.

 

  1. Season begins 4/30/2007 and ends 6/29/2007.

 

  1. All matches must be completed by July 2, 2007.

 

  1. Players must be registered on TennisLink prior to playing in a match. If a player plays a match without registering on TL that individual match will be defaulted (6-0, 6-0) and the win will go to the opposing team.

 

  1.  No match is to be played prior to the match schedule being input on TennisLink.  If the Virginia Tennis Leagues Administrator receives a season match schedule less than five days prior to the season start date, the Area League Coordinator must pay a fee of $50.00 to the Virginia Tennis office.

 

  1. Players without a computer rating are required to declare a self-rating when first entering the Leagues program on TennisLink.  In making their self-rating decision, players should consider the NTRP Guidelines posted on the TennisLink website and 2007 National Rule 3.01D(2). Once made, the self-rating declared by the player shall apply to all Divisions.  Players who have a computer rating more than five years old must self-rate.  The rating of established players should be taken from the 2006Year-End NTRP Ratings List as appropriate or an appeals outcome letter.  Players who will be 60 years old or older during the 2007 Championship year will have valid computer ratings on file in TennisLink for the last 3 years.  They must self-rate if their NTRP rating is older than 3 years.

 

  1. Representation at the 2007 Virginia Adult League District Championship will be as follows:

a.  2 - 12 teams will send 1 team

b.  13 - 23   teams will send 2 teams

c.       24 + teams will send 3 teams

 

  1. A local league is a team competition that applies specific local league regulations and consists of a minimum of two or more teams per level.

 

  1. Area League Coordinator reserves the right to ‘place’ a player on any team to ensure no one is denied the opportunity to play USTA League tennis in Roanoke.

 

  1. USTA Rules of Conduct, i.e, your opponent gets the benefit of the doubt on line calls, receiver shall play to the reasonable pace of the server, etc. are to be followed at all times. 

 

  1. Players are allowed a 90 second break at changeovers, with the exception of the changeover after 1st game of each set.  Players are allowed a 2-minute break between the 2nd and 3rd set or between the 2nd set and the Match Tie-Breaker.

 

  1. The Adult League Virginia District Tournament will be held on July 12 - 15, 2007 (levels 3.5,4.0,5.0) and July 20 – July 23, 2007 (levels 2.5,3.0,4.5).
