Rock Hound Run Report 11-16-06/11-20-06

Ron and I arrived on 11-16-2006 at around 12:15am and were greeted by Dave, he had the fire burning. We settled into talking about his trip out and the coyotes that had been harassing him all night. Ron and I set up our tents we all headed to bed in the wee hours of the morning. Thursday we decided to do the Chuckwalla Springs Trail and the Augustine Pass Trail, There was only the two Rigs, Dave and Ron and I, There is a movie of that round trip. From the Bradshaw trail you climb up to a ridge trail that takes you to the north side of the Chuckwalla Range West of Graham Pass, then you take a narrow canyon back to the Bradshaw trail about 7 miles further west. Thursday night Dave's family arrived late.
The next day Tom and family arrived early, they set up camp and then we all headed out towards the Opal Hill mine, it looked like someone has been there attempting to clean things up and also do some mining. We meet a couple there and they were also just looking around. We then went out to Pebble Terrace to pick up some agate and Jasper, all you want as usual. My sister Ann and family arrived late afternoon on Friday. Saturday we all struck out for the Limonite Cubes, well we had been there once only a few months ago. We found the spot again after some nice wheeling across the open desert bajadas and wash's .
Everyone found lots of Limonite Cubes and we also found some nice Quartz Crystals, ok then back to camp for a late lunch and compare and share our stash.
Then everyone wanted to go for some geodes, so we went to a close to camp area called the Potato Patch! This is a large area with more than one dig site, you just need to look towards the top of the ridges and find the one you want to check out.
We got back to camp after dark, of course sunset is 4:35. We had a really nice fire that night that everyone came to, including our friend Bob and group, who goes only to check out the Leonids, and shoot guns. I stayed up late in order  to see the meteors and it was a slow year. So the next day, Sunday, Tom and family headed for home, Dave and family headed for home and Ann and family headed for home. We all found some really nice rocks. Ron and I went on a short run after everyone else departed, then we headed back to camp to start packing up for the next day and returning to our other life.
