11-2004 Exploring the Little Mule Mts. near Blythe Ca.

We arrived at the campsite around midnight Friday, and were greeted by
October and Paul. Jon had followed us out. We built a fire and all got
acquainted. The next day Saturday we waited until 1:00pm, for anyone
else and then departed for the Petroglyphs, it took us about 2 hours
to find them, stopped and took some photo's looked around, then
decided we should try to go around the north and west side of the Mule
Mts. To get back to the Bradshaw trail, after about two hours of
following trails and washes it was getting late and still we had not
got to Bradshaw trail yet, I was concerned about it getting dark
before we found familiar ground, so headed west down a wash and found
a ATV track to follow. That turned out to be fun as it went into and
out of washes and finally emerged on to Wiley's Well road about 10
miles from camp. That night we had another fire, from the wood we
picked up on the return run. Also Dave was at camp when we got back,
he had missed us by 30 to 45 minutes. Sunday Dave, October and Paul
were heading back home so we did a short run out to the Hauser Geode
beds did a little rock hounding a couple of hill climbs and departed
with the two rigs heading home. Monday, we headed over to Palo Verde
to gas up. We went via the Opal Hill mine road, after gas we hit the
Bradshaw trail heading west to Augustine pass trial.
Took Augustine
Pass, which is gradual climb up to the top and then drop down into a
deep wash that winds and twists is way to the north side of the
Chuckwalla Mts. Then on up to Corn springs campsite. This is a really
cool area, lots of Palm trees and Indian Petroglyphs, we spent the
night here, there was only one other camper there. The next morning,
Tuesday we departed corn springs at
8:00am heading for Chuckwalla springs trail, which is a high ridge
trail, you take a wash until it ends then you climb up out of it onto
a trail that rises up to 2100ft, great views of the Ford Dry Lake bed
to the north and the desert to the south overlooking the Bombing
range, we did not see any military jets this time. This trail ends
back
on the Bradshaw trail. We then headed back to camp as Jon was going to
head home that afternoon. We helped Jon air up and pack up then bid
goodbye to him. Ron and I proceeded to clean up the campsite and get
ready for the Leonoids Meteor shower that night, which was a bust.
Wed. morning we loaded the motor home and hooked up the jeep and were
on the road about 10:00am.
No one broke anything, it was only the second trip out wheeling for
October and Paul they had a really good time, Jon had never done that
type of wheeling before he especially liked the Chuckwalla Springs
trail. I got to try out my new lockers. The rigs were October and
Paul's TJ with a 4" lift and 33's, Dave's TJ stock,
Jon's Tacoma TRD,
Little Mule Mts.
