We all spend lots of time teaching our kids safety.
  • Don't follow the ball into the street.
  • Take small bites.
  • Let's buckle up.

If your child has a food allergy, you have to teach them another set of precautions while they are very young.

  • Ask Mommy first.
  • Never eat off the floor.
  • No sharing snacks.
  • Those are peanuts.  NO TOUCHING!!

Our son was diagnosed with a peanut allergy when he was just 15 months old.  As he grew, we talked with him often about the habits he needed to stay safe.  I have written "Mommy, Is This Safe to Eat?" to pass on what we taught our son.

It was a big transition for us from a peanut-free preschool to public school Kindergarten.  Before your child goes off to elementary school , he or she needs to know basic food allergy rules.  Help educate your child and his or her classmates with "Starting School with a Food Allergy."
