Subject: Vampire Forum: The Card Game
Jackob - 08/12/2004 16:22:34 - jklunder@hotmail.comIn this card game, you take the role of Posters trying to get Threads
all the way to 75 posts. Different threads are possible and different
points are scored for each type of thread. A filled Advice-thread,
for example, nets a whopping 10 points, while a filled Flame, Humor
or Metaplot Discussion-thread nets a paltry 2 points. First person to
score 100 points win. Contributors to a successfull 75-Post Thread
also get points - the one who contributes the most get one-half of
the points, rounded down, while the one who contributes second-most
get half that and so on. Contributions are rated by the stats of the
Posters (see below).
Each turn, your pool of Connection points refresh. You start with 10
connection points, which can be used for the following actions:
*Bring a Poster into your pool (cost varies by Poster)
*Have a Poster Start a Thread (cost varies by Thread)
*Have a poster Post in a Thread (costs 2 Connection)
*Have a poster try to Threadcap (costs Connection points equal to the
Value of the thread)
*Play Events (cost varies by event)
*Activate Card text (cost varies by card text)
*Save up to use in other people's turns.
*Have neutral posters post in a thread (each Connection point adds 5
Posts to a Thread)
You have a number of Posters available. Each Poster is rated for a
number of of abilities and has a cost in Connection. Let us examine a
Poster.
~PragmaticBob~ (Cost: 7)
W: 8
K: 5
H: 7
Affiliations: The Danes, Cult of Vincent D'Amour, The Banned.
Specials:
"London Calling": Any Gaming Story Thread started by PragmaticBob
automatically starts with 5 Posts.
"Guide to...": Any Humor Thread started by PragmaticBob automatically
starts with 5 Posts.
"Not before the morning fag!": The first time in a round
PragmaticBob's Stats need to be checked, any other player may spend 2
Connection to halve each of his stats (round down).
No tolerance for stupidity: If anyones posts a Stupid Post or Flame
in any Thread stared by PragmaticBob or one where he has posted, he
must respond next turn.
'Nobflick!'
---
Stats are generally rated from 1 to 10.
Okay, so, W is Wisdom, used for such things as Posting or
contributing to OT-Threads and Political Threads, performing or
defending against Threadcapping and defending against Warnings and
Bannings. It is also used when playing Neutral Poster and Admitting
Fault. As you can see, PragmaticBob has a pretty high W, the result
of many years of diverse experience and a certain sturbborness.
K is Knowledge, as in Knowledge of the system. K is used in Posting
or contributing to Rules Question, Metaplot Discussion and Advice-
threads and to play such things as Back on Track, Page Number and
Example from the Books. As you can see, PragmaticBob has a somewhat
low Knowledge, owing to the fact that he mainly playes 2nd Edition.
However, he has some good non-technical advice that bumps his score.
H is humor, used for Posting and contributing to Humor and Gaming
Stories Threads and playing Humor Defense and I Was only Kidding. As
you can see, PragmaticBob has a pretty good Humor score.
Affiliations are groupings of posters who can help each other. It is
usually a good idea to have posters of the same Affiliations in your
Poster Pool. In this case, PragmaticBob is a member of The Danes (by
virtue of being a Dane), The Cult of Vincent D'Amour (while this is
not excactly voluntary, he is still affected by effects that affect
this Affiliation) and The Banned, as he has been Banned (only once,
but it still counts).
Specials are special abilities possessed by the poster. Here, you can
see that PragmaticBob has two good abilities: Certain Threads started
by him start with 5 posts. However, he also has two negative
specials. The first allows anyone to halve his Stats the first time
they are checked in a round (a round is each player's phase - when
all players have had a round a new turn starts). The second forces
PragmaticBob to Post in a Thread if someone has made a specific type
of Post.
The central aspect of the game are Threads and Posts. Threads are
started with Thread Cards, while Posts simply require an expenditure
of Connection points.
Threads are defined by the cost to post them, the stat that affect
them and the points you gain for completing them. Here's an example.
~Advice Thread~
Cost to Start: 5
Value: 10
Stat: Knowledge
Special: Stupid posts costs 1 more Connection point to make in this
Thread.
'I have an idea for a Sabbat game: Retake New York. However, I'd like
some help.'
---
So, this Thread costs a Poster 5 Connection to start (but some
posters, like the Unnamed Newbie, can do it cheaper) and when it
reaches 75 posts, the player who's Poster started it nets 10 points.
Also, the player who's poster contributed the most gains 5 points and
so on.
Posts need no cards, they can just be made. You nominate which Poster
wishes to Post in what Thread. This normally costs 2 Connection
points. However, you can post a Flame or Stupid Post for only 1
Connection point (although, as you can see, in the Advice thread,
Stupid posts cost an additional 1 Connection point). However, be
warned - there are a lot of events that target those who Post Stupid
Posts or Flames.
A successful post means the Poster contributes to the Thread. It adds
one Post to the Thread total and you note how much your poster had
contributed to the Thread, based on the relevant Stat. In the case of
the Advice Thread, anyone posting uses Knowledge to determine their
contribution. When the Thread reaches 75, you tally up all the
contribution to see who gets points for contributing. It is quite
possible for a player to gain points both for having a Poster start a
Thread and contribute to it.
Threadcapping is taking over a Thread. If successful, the
Threadcapping Poster is considered to be the original Poster of the
Thread. This, however, does not activate specials that only activate
when the thread is started (such as PragmaticBob's specials), but it
does activate specials that affect the thread throught its life.
In order to Threadcap, nominate a Poster and spend a number of
Connection Points equal to the current Value of the Thread (so you'd
need to spend 10! Connection points to Threadcap the Advice Thread).
Compare the Threadcapper's W to the Threadstarter's W. The higher
score wins. However, anyone from either the Threadcapper's or the
Threadstarter's Affiliations can weigh in. The player who controls
such an Affiliation-member can spend 1 Connection point to add half
(rounded down) of the Poster's W to the W of the Affiliation-member
who is Threadcapping or defending against it.
Okay, next update, we will do Events. However, here are two teasers:
~I Was only Kidding~
Cost: 1 Connection Point
Effect: Nominate a Poster. For the current use of Stats, replace
either W or K with the Poster's H.
'Hey, I was just kidding.'
---
~Shotgun~
Cost: X Connection Points
Effect: Add X Posts to a Thread. These posts must be enough to Close
the Thread. No player scores contribution for these posts.
'BOOM! *Kills the Thread*'

Affiliations: The OT-Thread; Co-Star of the Forumite Soap Opera,

Specials:
~Ability to flame with little to no regard of how the blowback will

affect reputation or social standing.
~Jackassery; Mr.Poor can utterly derail a thread given any
combination of drunkenness (cost: 2), extreme exhaustion (cost: 2),
or intense boredeom (cost: free; he's home for the summer, boys).
~No Tolerance for Stupidity; If anyone posts a Stupid Post or Flame
in any Thread in which Mr.Poor has read, he must respond next turn.
EXCEPTION: Mr.Poor is often "beaten to the punch" by mere moments;
PragmaticBob, Barghest, and predaphile are able to overcome any of
Mr.Poor's flames "in the nick of time".
~Weakness For the Ladies: Mr.Poor is nearly powerless against a

Amokk_antitribu - 08/13/2004 01:27:40~Amokk_antitribu~ (Cost: 7)
W: 6
K: 9
H: 5
Affiliations: Forumite Antediluvians, The Banned, Livejournal, Firemen
Specials:
~Within Reach: Amokk_antitribu's library of VtM books is always within
arms reach. He can retest any failed Knowledge check.
~Flame on: Amokk_antitribu's ability to flame used to be much greater,
but his power has waned muchly in the last few months. He still
retains this ability, but it is diminished from its previous
intensity. He is allowed one automatic flame response in a thread
that he is aware exists.
~Ennui: Amokk has gained Ennui for the forums in his incarnation as
Amokk_antitribu. His previous near-24-hour devotion to reading,
responding, and creating on the forums was chopped in half after his
first Ban, and has slowly dwindled in recent months. It costs twice
as much as normal to create a thread, and Amokk_antitribu can never be
the first respondant to a thread.
~Amokk~ (Cost: 8) (this is a rare pre-ban card)
W: 8
K: 9
H: 3
Affiliations: Forumite Antediluvians, Livejournal, Canon Police
Specials:
~Within Reach: Amokk's library of VtM books is always within arms
reach. He can retest any failed Knowledge check.
~Flame On: Amokk can flame with near impunity. In fact most flames by
Amokk increase his ability to post in a thread. When using this
ability, Amokk can post a direct response to any opponent immediately,
even if he has already been used that turn. The only thing that would
stop this is a Forum Ban. Amokk is nearly omnipotent and does not
even need to be previously aware of a thread's existence to reply to a
flame against him.
There is a downside to this, and that is newbie cards who show up in
the middle or somehow get in the line of fire have a Negative Attitude
towards Amokk until he is able to post again in another thread without
using Flame On where his Knowledge is shown useful.
~Hate on: Amokk cannot avoid assaulting any thread or post where
ArbenGhast (in any of his/her/its configurations) has posted. Flame
On can be used in these threads, but Amokk's stats for any attacks are
halved (round down). The downside to Flame On is also in affect with
this.
~Superiority Complex: Amokk has a superiority complex. He believes he
is right, those who agree with him are smart, and everyone else is a
bleeding idiot. This contributes to his low Humor score. His Wisdom
is considered -1 and his Knowlege is -2 with Newbies for the next 3
threads after using Flame On or being caught with a Hate On.

again in this thread the next round.
- “Patron Saint of Patient STs” Tolerance for stupidity: dgg's
response to flames cost him 2 additionnal generation points, as he
must overcome his natural tendency to let it pass.
- “Yay! I beat Burkos’ word count!”. If any one of DGG’s posts
contains advice not already covered by Burkos, that post is worth an
extra X points where X is the number of words that exceeds Burkos’
posts
- ”Litter” posts started by DGG automatically start at 3 posts.
- “M&F guru” Because DGG has a word document containing all
published Merit and Flaws. Any post related to M&F costs X points
less where X is the cost of the Merit or flaw being discussed.
- ”Index? What Index?” Any post by DGG where he bitches about the
editing practices of WW costs 1 less.
”But I’m not homophobic!”…DGG raises a red flag whenever he uses the
word F*G in any of his posts. If he does so his Wisdom stat is halved
for that thread.
- "There is nothing wrong with D&D!": DGG must respond to any post
that trashes any other RPG (with the sole exception of Racial Holy
War).
- “Stop asking me that!” DGG’s H stat for the thread is halved
whenever a post contains the phrase “Is Michelle hot?”
- “Ennui” Similar to Amokk’s weakness, it costs twice as normal for
DGG to start a thread. In addition if a poster reacts surprised to a
concept that has been around for years ( IE Ha! Ha! A Trujah! That’s
funny!”), DGG sinks into a depression and he cannot post in that
thread at all and must refrain from making any post for a full 24
hours.
- “Thanks DGG!” If any poster goes out and buys a WW book based on
DGG’s recommendation, DGG wisdom score goes up by 1.

just have to introduce myself to this amazing new card game. Here we
go:
Melkhor, High Priest of the SoS-W
Cost: 7
W: 6
K: 7
H: 6
Affiliation: Male, The Danes, The Society of Set-Worshippers
Special abilites: "Setite Loremaster": Increase all Melkhor's stats
with 3 when dealing with anything related to the Followers of
Set. "Setite Embassy": Melkhor is considered to be a member of the
Gonites if he choses so. "Declare Anathema": By spending 2 connection
points, Melkhor may declare a topic Anathema (Members of the SoS-W
gains a +1 bonus to W when treadcapping a post containing an
Anathema).
"If you call him, He will come": If Melkhor does not respond to a
threath mentioning the Followers of Set, or the Danes being put down,
halve all his stats (round down) until he does so.
"Inactive": For Melkhor to take any action not related to his
affiliations, the Followers of Set, or Forum Con, the cost increases
by one.
"We're NOT a cult, we're a Society!"
So, what do you think, acceptable?

Specials:
"Dazed and Confused": Nightward lives in a Different Time Zone (see
below) and so arrives disoriented and confused in any Thread in
which he posts, because he's missed everything that happened during
what was, for him, the night. He begins posting in any thread at
half stats, but this ends on his second Post.
"Different Time Zone": Nightward may elect to act in his oppenent's
turn if he so desires.
"Unlimited hat": Nightward has zero tolerence for just about
everything. All damage he deals is considered Aggravated.
"Die, arsehat. I hate you."

Forum Week of Nightmares
Cost: 5 Flame Posts
Effect: The flaming rapidly degenrates into a forum-wide flamewar.
Trolls everywhere die a terrible death as the normally meek posters
lash out, and everyone gives up on the forum for a while.
As soon as this card is played, all Character cards are picked up
from the table and tossed into the nearest fire. The game ends
abruptly, and no-one likes to talk about it very mch afterwards.
"RAVNOS LIVES!"
***
Attack of the Fishmalk
Cost: 0
Effect: The thread is overwhelmed by a non sequitor story about your
Chronicle's resident Fishmalk.
Play on an opponent. Everyone hates them, and on the next turn, any
damage they suffer is Flame damage and considered Aggravated. Halve
their Humour value for all future posts.

questionable since only certain people have been allowed to see it,
others are "not worthy." This gives Arby +5 posts when used to start
a thread, however all flame attacks on that thread are doubly effective.
~Rivalry : ArbenGhast seems to draw the ire of the Forumite
Antediluvians. All flames from Forumite Antediluvians against Arby
count double (and this does stack with the drawback to Geneology).
~Blatant stupidity : Arby seems immune to logic. Arby can destabalize
any thread based on canon knowledge by playing "Golden Rule!" and
accusing everyone who doesn't agree of being Canon Police (even if
they're not actually Canon Police). This turns the thread into a
Flame War and only flames (against Arby, then usually newbies flaming
those who flamed Arby) are allowed from that point on in the thread.
Anyone who cannot flame is unusable in that thread. Any logic-based
attack automatically fails.
However this also means that Arby is unusable in any canon debate or
logical discussion thread except as a destabilizer.
Threads cannot exceed 75 posts. Please start a new thread.
