2007 Ocean Race
The Torrey Pines Sailing Club offers its members unbeatable values in Day Sailing, Racing, and Cruising in and around beautiful San Diego Bay. The club owns six sailboats docked at the Island Palms Marina on Shelter Island: five 21 ft Victories and one 27 ft Catalina. Both experienced and novice sailors are welcome. Beginner classes are offered as a member benefit.
Day Sailing. The Victories are available for use by any Club member who has qualified as a skipper. They will carry up to four adults. The Catalina is available to Club members with more sailing experience. It will comfortably accommodate seven or eight adults. All the boats can be used for day sailing in San Diego Bay. Sailing destinations in the Bay include the Coronado Ferry Landing and the beach at the Coronado Golf Course. Additional experience and training are required for off-shore sailing.
Racing.
The Club's racing activities are centered around it's fleet of
Victories. Club members compete in monthly one-design
regattas with members of the Convair Sailing Club, an annual
ocean race and an annual team race held jointly with that Club,
and the annual Victory Nationals which brings together Victory
skippers from several locations on the west coast. Competitors in
the monthly regattas are divided into four fleets according to
seeding averages, an arrangement which permits members of varying
levels of experience to sail against others with similar
experience in one-design racing.
Cruising. The Catalina is the Club's cruising boat. It sleeps five, and can be sailed to Catalina Island and other destinations by qualified Club members who have filed an appropriate float plan with the Club.
Classes. The Club holds beginner sailing classes several times a year. Novice sailors with no previous certification are required to take classroom instruction offered by the Club or by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Water lessons are held in San Diego Bay at the mutual convenience of students and Club instructors, usually on weekends. The objective is to provide beginners with the classroom and practical skills needed to qualify as TPSC Victory skippers. Newcomers who sign up for an initial three-months membership in the Club are welcome to participate in this course.
Membership fees. Current dues are $450 per year, all of which can be applied to sailing time at regular sailing rates. There is a $50 initiation fee for new members. Members can earn free sailing time and a limited dues reduction by assisting with maintenance and instruction. The three-month trial membership, with up to five water lessons, is $180, including the initiation fee. The 3-month period starts when the student has demonstrated sufficient sailing competence and includes $100.00 of prepaid sailing time at the rates listed below. Additional family members can be included in the course for $20 per person. The US Coast Guard classroom courses are provided for a nominal charge to cover the textbook and course materials
Corporate associates. TPSC is interested in working with San Diego companies who wish to encourage and subsidize employee membership directly or through an employees' recreational association. Sailing is one more reason for employees to come to and stay in the San Diego area.
Sailing rates. Current sailing rates are as follows:
| Boat | Weekend Day | Midweek Day | Evening | Week |
| Victory | $20 | $15 | $10 | -- |
| Catalina | $40 | $30 | $20 | $200 |
