Ringil was the sword of Fingolfin, a Noldor elf (father of Gil-Galad). Fingolfin challenged Morgoth to single combat, but lost. No mention of what happened to Ringil.

Morgoth set his left foot upon his neck... Yet with his last and desparate stroke Fingolfin hewed the foot with Ringil, and the blood gushed forth black and smoking... Morgoth went ever halt of one foot after that day, and the pain of his wounds could not be healed...
