Yorktown Forever
Ode to the USS Yorktown (CV-5)
Sunk at the Battle of Midway, June 4, 1942
By Captain Stanford E. Linzey, Jr.

Manned by a gallant crew,
            Was the famed and mighty "Y;"
Some say she died in "Forty-two;"
            Some say she's still alive.

The famed and mighty "Y"
            Was majestic to behold;
Some say she's still alive
            In the depths of the sea so cold.

Majestic to behold,
            All primped and primed in grey;
In the depths of the sea so cold'
            Preserved in God's own way.

All primped and primed in grey,
            Ready for battle when it came;
Preserved in God's own way,
            She served with grand acclaim.

Ready for battle when it came,
            She fought with force and might;
She served with grand acclaim;
            Crushed infamy in the fight.

She fought with force and might;
            Though suffering hurt and harm
Crushed infamy in the fight;
            Thus causing great alarm.

Though suffering hurt and harm,
            Some say she died in "forty-two;"
She crushed infamy in the fight;
            Manned by a gallant crew.
