The Salty 'Wog
![]()
Ahoy shipmates and land-lubbers alike! Welcome to the Salty 'Wog. I chose the name for this website because I spent so many years (20+) in the great United States Navy and never made it across the equator. To the unknowing, a 'wog is short for a pollywog, a "newbie", an uninitiated sailor, and supposedly a lowly sea scum. When crossing the equator pollywogs, when I was in the navy, went through an initiation ceremony to become crusty old (?) shellbacks, rulers of the sea. Due to circumstances out of my control, I never got the chance to cross the equator, so I remain, to this day, a "Salty 'Wog!"

This website is about my career in the great U.S. Navy and some of my related poetry. I do have another site, Mind's Eye Expressions, with much more poetry, if you're interested. To get there, just click on the "Mind's Eye Poetry" link below. I hope you enjoy what you see here. If you have any questions or comments, please click the "Email Me" button below.
