The following are records that were recorded by Arizona
groups either locally or on out of state labels. Notice that some of the
labels have Real Audio files attached, so you can hear
these beautiful ballads.
The Mandells were Arizona's answer
to the Del-Vikings. They were stationed at Fort Huachuca Army base
in Sierra Vista, AZ. Their more
widely known recording is "Darling I'm home", also on the Smart label.
The
Mandells are rumored to be from
Chicago. Their "Darling I'm Home" was released on Chess Records as well
as Smart.
The Versatiles grew up in Phoenix
and were discovered singing at Eastlake Park by local producer
and night club owner Jim Musil.
Musil also produced the rare album "Waylon Jennings At JD's".
The Versatiles also had a record
released on Val Shively's
Monogram label called "My Autumn
Love", a cover of the Danderliers tune.
This is the 1st record by the TADs.
It was also released on Dot. Lead singer is Leroy Fullylove,
who is the writer of "Bumblebee"
by Lavern Baker!
Recorded in 1957, this is the 2nd record
by the TADs.
The Buffs were led by Leroy Fullylove,
lead of the Tads. This is a beautiful ballad!
Recording date was 1960.
The Servicemen were stationed at Luke
Air Force Base, just west of Phoenix.
Their recordings are quite collectable
among Northern Soul collectors. "My turn" was
recorded in 1967 in Hollywood and
produced by local Phoenix DJ , Hadley "Loves You Madly" Murrell.
Recorded in 1967, this the same
group that recorded "Roll Over Beethoven" on Jamie.
I personally prefer this version
over the Falcons!
