Dixon Lake

Dixon Lake is a small climbing area located next to the Lake Dixon reservoir in the North San Diego County town of Escondido. Its short five minute approach makes it a popular spot for those who don't have all day to devote to climbing. The granite boulders hold mostly boulder and top rope climbs, but there are a few short leads. Gear may be required to set up some of the top rope problems. Climbing at Dixon consists of cracks and steep faces. There may be a small fee to enter this city park.

Access Issue : None known

How to get there : From I -15 in Escondido, take the El Norte Parkway exit east about 3 1/4 miles to La Honda Drive. Turn left (north) on La Honda and follow it to the Dixon Lake entrance station. Make an immediate right turn after the entrance station and park in the second parking lot you come to. Just across the road from the parking lot, a short trail leads to the rocks.

Types of Climbing : Bouldering, Toprope

Number of Routes : 40 or more boulder and toprope problems, not counting all the personal variations.

Ratings : 5.6 to 5.12
