Magnolia Boulders

This Area May Be Closed

Magnolia is a large hillside covered with 70 or more boulders. In the 1970's and 80's, the area served as an alternative to Santee Boulders. The Great Western Bouldering Championship was held here in 1982. In the mid 1990's, access became questionable when a residential development began at it's base. With the building now completed, it appears that access is still available, although a bit more walking is required. Please note that with the new housing development in place, access is different than described in the Craig Fry guide, and orientation of his topos may be a bit different also.

Access Issue : This Area May Be Closed
Magnolia is on private land and several signs are posted in the vicinity that say keep out. Also, at least two climbers have been stopped and questioned by police.

How to get there : Magnolia is located in North East Santee. In Santee, take Magnolia Ave. north almost to it's end and turn right on Princess Joann St. After about 3 blocks this street ends. Park on the hill side of the street (no houses) and head up the hill (no trail).

Types of Climbing : Bouldering, Toprope, a few aid problems

Number of Routes : 100 or more on 70 or more boulders

Ratings : 5.7 to 5.11+
