Poway
Crags
This Area
is closed until further notice !
The City of Poway has closed
this area and placed "Sensitive Habitat No Tresspassing"
signs in the area. Since its inception, Poway Crags has been
a sore topic among bird lovers due to nesting of sensitive bird
species. The Oct. 2003 fire devastated this area, making it even
more sensitve. Additionally, the bolts were fried pretty badly
by the flames and are somewhat suspect.
Please stay
out of this area until things change !
Poway Crags offers good
quality, fun sport climbing on fine grain granite. Most of the
routes are bolted but some require additional gear as well, so
bring more than just draws. For first timers, the Sport Wall
and Godzilla are especially recommended. At 5.10b, Godzilla is
one of the best mixed routes in San Diego. If the 45 minute hike
to the crag zaps your will to lead, almost all the routes can
be toproped (some routes require long slings for TR). There has
been some new route activity in the last couple years so some
routes may not be in any guide book.

Area is closed until further notice !

light. Take Iron Mountain trail a mile or so until you get to
