San Marcos Quarry

San Marcos Quarry is an old dilapidated quarry, right beside a dump. It contains several bolted sport climbs, but you might want to think twice about going there. Our latest info is that the place is full of trash, appliances, old cars, and graffiti. If that's not enough, the rock is soft and crumbly and access is becoming a problem. The place is surrounded by new construction sites and security guards may not even let you pass. If you still want to give the place a try, directions are posted below.

Access Issue : The area is on private land, and as mentioned above, construction work may make access difficult.

How to get there : From Carlsbad, head north on Rancho Santa Fe Rd. (S10). From Hwy 78, head south on Rancho Santa Fe Rd. Turn east on La Costa Meadows Dr. and follow the street until it deadends. There is ample parking along the street. Go up the hill at the end of the street and hike northeast along the fire road. It's easy to navigate as you can see the area you're headed to. It's about a 1-mile hike up to the top. A right turn halfway along the trail will take you to the base of the climbs.
