Grand Canyon - Rim to Rim to Rim

Location : Grand Canyon Nat. Park, Arizona
Length : 42 or 47 miles, depending on route
Elevation Gain/Loss : 11,000 ft
Season : May-June & September-November
Trails : South Kaibab to North Kaibab
     or : Bright Angel to North Kaibab

A very popular ultra run/speed hike. Since most people in top shape can do this under 24 hrs it's technically not a fastpack trip. But beginning fastpackers could use it as a two day training hike.

Length : 67 miles (71 mi. with side trip to Whitney summit)

A great 2 or 3 day beginning fastpack trip that requires 2 cars unless you plan on doing a round trip hike.

Tahoe Rim Trail

A great mid length fastpack trip. Completed in 2001, the Tahoe Rim Trail is one of the newest long trails in the western U.S. Expect to encounter typical Sierra conditions, with elevations ranging from 6240 to 10,340 ft. and many great lake views.

John Muir Trail

Location : Sierra Nevada Mountains , California
Length : 222 miles (the JMT itself is 211 miles)
Elevation Gain/Loss : more than 40,000 ft
Season : July - Sep
Trails : John Muir Trail , Whitney Trail
North Trailhead : Happy Isles, Yosemite Valley
South Trailhead : Whitney Portal

One of the best fastpack trips in the U.S. with lots of high mountain passes and beautiful scenery. Some sections may feel crowded if you want to be alone in the wilderness.
