Children are very special to God. They have a rare innocence and such a great love to
share. We all want to do right by our children. There is no doubt that when a child dies
God welcomes him or her right into heaven. Of course, our children grow up and in time
must make decisions for themselves about where they are to spend eternity. They need to be
prepared for this time, just as we would prepare them for the working world by sending
them to school. Here is a very simple way to lead children to understanding. You will have
to flesh out the details. :-)A - Admit you have sinned and this keeps you apart from
God. Repent (be sorry) and turn away from your sin (really try not to do it anymore)
B - Believe that Jesus is God's Son, died on the cross for your sins so that you could
live forever in heaven, and rose again. He is alive right now in heaven.
C - Choose to make a commitment. Trust in Jesus as your Savior and your Lord. Accept
the gift of salvation.
Be sure that children understand that there is no other way to get to heaven than by
trusting in Jesus. Praying a prayer will not do it. Doing good works will not do it. Being
a good girl or boy will not do it. Below are some additional thoughts you might like to
share with your child.
When they truly understand and desire to trust Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior,
here is a sample prayer you can help them pray to tell God their decision. They can talk
to God in their own way. This is just a sample if they need help in forming the
words.
Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I know that I can't earn my own way to heaven. I
believe Jesus died on the cross so I could be forgiven and have eternal life in heaven. I
believe He rose from the grave. I am truly sorry for my sins. Please forgive me. Lord
Jesus, come and take control of my life. Help me to live for you. Thank you for hearing me
and for saving me. I accept the precious gift of eternal life. In the name of Jesus I
pray. Amen
Here's the basics again:
Everyone sins!
Sin separates you from God!
God loves you!
Confess your sin!
Believe in Jesus- He took the punishment for your sin!
Tell others about Jesus!
Follow God's' commands! |

God is everywhere. He is all powerful and knows everything. God never
changes. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.
God created everything.
God loves everyone, especially you.
God cares for all of His creations, including you and your family.
God can hear your prayers no matter where you are or when you pray and delights in
them.
God is dependable. He will never let you down.
God sent Jesus, His Son, to earth to be our Savior - to take all our sins away so that
we could live forever and ever in heaven with Him.
God gave us the Bible so we could learn all about His creations and about His Son and
about how He wants us to live. |

Jesus is God's Son. Jesus has always been alive. He left heaven and came
to earth to die for our sins.
Jesus never sinned.
Jesus was put to death on the cross, although he had committed no crime. This was a
terrible thing but Jesus wanted to do it, because He loves us so much. He wanted us to be
able to go to heaven and be with Him.
Jesus rose from the dead. That means that even though He died and was buried in a grave
in the side of a mountain, just like everyone else in that time, He returned to life. His
body and spirit remain alive today. This is not like a TV show where actors can die in one
movie and are alive again to do another one. This is REAL. Jesus really died and really
came back to life. NO ONE has ever done this, nor ever will, in their own power.
Jesus lives in heaven but He will come back to earth again one day.
Jesus wants all of us to believe in Him and accept His gift of salvation. He wants us
to live with Him in heaven forever and ever.
Jesus loves everyone, especially you.
Jesus is always with you.
Jesus wants you to pray.
Jesus wants you to read the Bible.

The Bible is God's book. He inspired certain people to write down
things He wants us to know.
The Bible is the way God teaches us about Himself and Jesus.
The Bible is always true. It is always right. It is never wrong.
The Bible helps us to know how we should live.
The Bible can help us when we have a problem and need an answer from God.
It is important to read the Bible as often as we can and study what God wants us to
know.

Sin is anything that disobeys God. Sin makes God sad and separates us
from Him.
Sin is thinking and doing the wrong things.
Everyone has sinned.
The Bible says that the punishment for sinning is death. Although we all die physically
eventually, this death is separation from God forever, in a place called hell.
No matter how many good things we do, our sins are not taken away. Only God
can take away (forgive) sins.
God cannot be where there is sin. Sin must be punished. The only way for us to be with
God was for Jesus to come and take our punishment and get rid of our sins.
If you ask Him, Jesus will take away your sins. |

Salvation is a free gift from God. You cannot earn it by doing good
things. Salvation means being able to live in heaven with God forever and ever, even after
your body dies on earth. You can live forever, in heaven, if you accept God's gift of
salvation.
You need to admit to God that you sin.
You need to believe that Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for your sins.
You need to believe that Jesus rose from the dead and is alive today.
You need to trust Jesus as your Lord and Savior. To make Jesus Lord means that you will
let Him guide you and be your master. Sometimes we want to do things that are not
good for us. Jesus knows what is good for us and will never do anything to harm us.

Jesus gave you parents to care for you and to teach you. Jesus wants you
to obey your parents.
Jesus wants you to pray for your parents and family.
Jesus wants you to love your parents and your family. |

Many children are familiar with the Ten Commandments but they don't really
understand what they mean. Here is a really simple version which you can adapt. You can
even simplify it even further for younger children. Instead of saying "Don't have any
other gods except the one true God", just say "No other gods." Read
Exodus 20:3-17 to get the full verses. 1. Don't have any other gods except the one true
God.
2. Don't have any idols (things you worship instead of God).
3. Don't swear or use bad language.
4. Worship and praise with other Christians at church services.
5. Honor (obey) your parents.
6. Don't murder.
7. Don't commit adultery (that means to act as a husband or wife with someone who is
not your husband or wife. Ask your parents if you need more information.)
8. Don't steal.
9. Don't tell lies or gossip about your friends.
10. Don't be jealous of what someone else has. God will provide what you need.
