Sarasvati has been instructed in a wide variety of styles within and outside of Middle-Eastern dance. Since beginning her studies in 2001, she has received the tutelage of many well-known local performers. In 2006, she took part in the Colorado College Summer Dance Festival, during which time she received the great pleasure of intensive training with her belly dance superhero, Rachel Brice. Since the start of her dance career, she has been featured in several local publications, including the cover page of the SouthCoast Learning Network catalog, and at length in the Standard Times newspaper of New Bedford. She has had the privilege of learning from, and performing with, some of New England's most talented dancers. She has danced to the music of Boston's very own Mosaic Ensemble, featuring world-renowned violinist Freddie Elias!
Sarasvati's passion lies in the emotion and creativity of improvisational dance. Incorporating traditional with modern elements, her performances are always unique to the moment, and often feature any of a variety of select props (including the elegant veil, zills and folkloric cane).
She has been instructing in the New Bedford area since 2004, and continues to expand her joy of the dance by sharing it with others. Click here for more information on where to sign up.
If you're in Massachusetts or Rhode Island, be sure to keep an eye out for Sarasvati. She's on the move!
