Families from South Louisiana

I've developed quite an interest in genealogy. Since most of my family's ancestors stayed around the same area of South Louisiana for a long time, tracking them has been easier than expected. My uncle John Doiron of Brusly, Louisiana did much preliminary work researching the Acadian names and family links to Doiron, Landry and many other collateral names. He tracked those names and several others back to their Acadian roots, and deserves much credit for getting me started.

I've tracked my four grandparents name (Marchand, Doiron, Triche and Abbott) back to the 1800's and even the 1700's. I am gradually tracing others back to their emmigration from Europe. The major names I'm working on are Marchand, Doiron, Landry, Triche, Abbott, Brumfield and Seeger. My wife's family names are Brumfield and Seeger and I have some information on those. Here's a complete surname list and here's an indexed list. Click here for family name stories. For information about sources, click here for source listings & commentary.

I've entered several old genealogy books into GEDCOM format and added them to this page. They are:

Fields of Broom, John Brumfield and Margaret Kelly, Their Ancestors and Descendants by Alma Dell Magee Clawson

A very good study of BRUMFIELD in Mississippi and Louisiana, Written circa early 1970s.

Brumfields Revisited: Ancestors and Descendants of George Y. and Martha Penny Brumfield by Ruth B. Randolph and Nell B. Jacobs Smith

A smaller, more localized study of BRUMFIELD, leading to my wife's family.

Doirons by Henry Dudley Doiron

A listing of a large branch of DOIRON in south Louisiana, written circa 1990.

I have a copy of Brumfields Revisited, but no longer have paper copies of the other two. The databases are not a substitute for the actual books. Only the books give the reasons, sources, problems and conclusions. I have been as careful as I could in data entry. I have noticed a few errors in each, mostly simple date or transcription errors. Any questions as to sources or problems must be answered by obtaining the books themselves. I only put the information here as a quick reference.
