Next Meeting - September 17
Gumbo Contest!
Dear Fellow Members,
Our monthly meeting is on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7:00 PM in the Crustacean Room behind Lehrman’s Seafood & Bar. This is our annual Gumbo Cooking contest and we are looking for cooks to enter their best pot of gumbo. As of this notice, we only have two people signed up to cook and we need more challengers to enter in order to make this a successful event. Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners. Members, their significant others or children may enter contest. Please bring your gumbo hot and ready to serve with a utensil. Rice, bowls and spoons will be provided! Members and their family are invited to attend this event and sample some great gumbos. Please call Joey Englert at 504-277-6683 if you are going to enter the contest.
The St. Bernard Chapter of Ducks Unlimited is hosting their annual banquet on Thursday, Oct. 22 in the Civic Auditorium’s Grand Ballroom. We have started to put together a table for league members who are interested in attending. If you would like to go, tickets are $50 per person. This includes a meal & membership in DU. Tickets must be purchased by our Oct. 15 meeting. Make checks payable to SBSL and can be paid at the Sept.17th, the Oct. 15th meeting or by mail.
Calling all fishermen! If you like to fish and want to support a great cause, then please enter the Silent Heroes Fishing for a Wish, Inc., 2nd Annual Fishing Rodeo. The rodeo is on Oct.17th at Gulf Outlet Boat Launch, 316 Marina Road in Chalmette. Proceeds go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and are used to grant wishes for children.
Registration is $10 for children 13 and younger and $30 for children/adults 14 and older. Ticket includes a tournament T-shirt, food and drinks. Scales will be open from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call Nicky Alfonso at 504-272-0038 or Brian Clark at 985-218-9222.
During our last general meeting we discussed the possibility of putting together a cookbook as a fundraiser for the Sportsman’s League. This will be a specialty cookbook with recipes for wild game and seafood. Please start putting together your favorite recipes and get them to Ernie Franatovich at 116 Coney Dr, Arabi, LA 70032. You may also bring them to a meeting or send them by email to englertj@cox.net.
Please start thinking about nominations of officers for the 2010 year. Nominations will be accepted at the Oct. 15th meeting. Persons nominated must be present at the meeting to accept/decline or may accept in writing if unable to attend the meeting. All positions are open, President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, Membership, Communications, Program director and Sergeant-at-Arms. Election will be held at the Nov. 19th meeting. Please get involved!
Our club fishing rodeo this summer was a very enjoyable event and several members have expressed a desire to have a fall rodeo. We just need to agree on a date and place and go with it. If anyone has a suggestion for date and place, please call Joey Englert at 504-277-6683 or come to the meeting on Sept. 17 and we will set it up.
