Parishioners share benefits of retreat at St. Joseph Abbey

Abbey campus - Retreatants took but a short walk across St. Ben’s campus to attend community Mass in the Abbey church.

Beneath the arches and domes of the church, they also had a daily opportunity to attend morning Lauds and evening Vespers. During Lauds, resident Benedictine monks begin the day with chants of praise to God. Similarly, evening Vespers traditionally includes psalms, hymns, and the reading of the Magnificat.

A handsome breezeway leads to the church from other parts of the campus.

Here are some comments from SCB parishioners who attended the recent retreat at St. Joseph Abbey, popularly known as St. Ben’s:

One person said “The Spirit I experienced on retreat Nov. 4th to the 6th at the Christian Life Center, I pray will continue to grow in the knowledge of the love of our God.”

Another added, “I have been going to the Abby for a few years now. I experience the Holy Spirit more each time. It is a place for healing the hurts and teaches me to deal with difficult problems. I look forward to going each time. The Lord opens the door to me and I am truly thankful for that.”

“The Retreat at St. Ben’s was most enjoyable,” commented another parishioner. “It provided me with a spiritual uplift. The Abby’s atmosphere is very conducive to praying, meditating and a real cleansing of the soul. All and all it was a very rewarding experience.”
