Best seat in the house
THE GLIDER ON LOYOLA HALL’S BALCONY

There are many places on the Manresa campus that might be considered the “Best Seat in the House”. Due to limited access to its unadvertised location, this worthy nominee may be one of the least known.
Nestled on the second floor balcony of Loyola Hall, retreatants might not even realize that they have access to this area. It may appear that the balcony is only be accessible to those residents who are so “privileged” (we are poking fun here) to lodge in one of the handful of suites in that building. However, curious retreatants who take the stairs or the elevator to the second floor of Loyola Hall easily discover a door to the balcony right there at the end of the hallway. Open the door and you find on the balcony the chair to which we refer.
The chair is a comfortable wooden glider. It offers seclusion, shade, and comfort. Its elevated location guarantees a squirrel’s-eye view of the twisting branches of Manresa’s oaks, quite often accompanied by a cooling breeze.
The glider on Loyola Hall’s balcony is a great place to pray. It’s a great place to reflect upon the retreat lecture you just heard downstairs. It’s a great place to read the Bible or any other spiritually enriching book that will add to your retreat experience. As you gently sway to and fro in the chair, it’s a great place to gather your thoughts, reflect upon your past, and add Christ’s resolve to your future.
Surely, the glider on Loyola Hall’s balcony has to be one of the “Best Seats in the House”!
