Men come from near and far for Labor Day 2001 retreat

Wooden gliders on the second-floor balcony of St. Mary's Hall at Manresa provide a comfortable and scenic spot for retreatants to read or to reflect on their relationship with God.

Labor Day retreat at Manresa was well attended. 14 men from our group attended the retreat; nine were from Destrehan, one was from Norco, one was from Grammercy, one was from Metairie, one was from Slidell, and one former parishioner came all the way from Chicago to make the retreat. Several people missed out on their planned annual retreat, as they had to cancel their Manresa reservations due to work and other commitments.

Father Hacker Fagot, S.J., was the retreat master. His spiritual exercises were based on St. Luke's Gospel. The new Loyola Hall and the comfortable seating made the talks seem to last 15-20 minutes, but in fact all lasted 30-35 minutes.

Overall, 129 men registered for the retreat and 103 actually attended; 12 of those were first-timers. The majority of the men came from Louisiana, but Illinois, Tennessee, Texas and a few other states were represented.

One resounding punch line from St. Luke's Gospel by Father Hacker was: "Each one of us were chosen to be part of God's plan for salvation of mankind."
