Parishioners, spouses and friends make time for God

The beautiful architecture and tranquil grounds of St. Joseph's Abbey - also known as St. Ben's - provided a wonderful setting for November's "mixed" retreat for singles and couples.

"Mixed" retreat uses scriptures to share a moment with Christ

St. Joseph's Abbey in Covington was the setting for the 4th Annual Retreat for members and friends of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Thirty-five people joined the Reverend Thomas Perrier, O.S.B. on November 6th - 8th for individual and communal prayer, peaceful reflections, quiet meditations, good food, and much needed rest, all of which Fr. Perrier said were needed for a good retreat.

Clarence and Fay Landeche served as retreat captains and were ably assisted by co-captains Earl and Daisy Rodrigue.

During the conferences led by Fr. Perrier, he encouraged those on retreat to use the scriptures to come to a deeper faith and a more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. He said that St. Augustine wrote that the Old Testament was "pregnant with Jesus Christ" and the the New Testament proclaimed His birth and the fulfillment of God's Promise. Reading any scripture passage in the Bible is a moment shared with Christ and he told the "retreatants" when praying with the Scriptures to look for His Presence, experience His Power, and rest in His Peace!

All those who attended agreed the retreat was a special time shared with good friends in the warmth and love of Christ!
