"Sounds of Manresa" - The Song

INDOOR ACOUSTICS - Voices of the choir resound in a resonant transept of the chapel during practice before the retreat begins.

SEPT. 14 FELLOWSHIP DAY AT SCB WILL FEATURE RARE REUNION OF MEN’S CHOIR

Hey everybody! Listen up. These are the “Sounds of Manresa.” Let me tell you about this great upcoming event and how to get tickets!

In case you don’t already know, one thing that sets Manresa retreat group #29 apart from most - if not all - other groups is the fact that they have organized a choir that sings at their daily Mass. And since the sixteen members of their talented choir are from several different parts of Louisiana, they have only sung together outside of their Manresa retreat only once before.

But on September 14, the “Singing 29’ers” will present their second - and possibly last - “public” concert, right here at SCB. Parishioners, retreatants and friends are invited to the day’s event. The doors will open at 11:00 AM, and a delicious dinner cooked by some of the best chefs in the parish will be served beginning at 11:30. Exhibits, a silent auction, and other presentations will take place prior to the concert, which will begin around 1:30 PM.

Tickets are a virtual giveaway at only $6 for adults, $5 for teens and $3 for younger children, but the deadline for making reservations is September 7. So call the Church office (764-6383) now to reserve places for your family at this very special event. Come hear the “Sounds of Manresa”. The men’s concert will include a short commentary explaining why we sing certain hymns. These musical messages are all for the glory, praise and worship of God and are self explanatory in the messages that are exchanged between us and the Lord. For instance...

Jesus proclaims -

“I called you each by name to share my home.”

“Be not afraid, I go before you always. Come follow me.”

“This day you’ll be with me in paradise.”

And in song we reply -

“Here I am Lord. I have heard you calling in the night.”

“Jesus, let all creation bend a knee to the Lord.”

“This is Jesus, Emmanuel. god is with us.”

“Abba, Father, you are the potter, we are the clay.”

“Let us praise Jesus now.”

“Yahweh, I know you are near.”

“I will bless the Lord at all times.”

“Take Lord, receive all I have and possess.”

“Father of everything we come to your call.”

“Create in me, O Lord my God, a new heart, a new soul.”

So please plan to enjoy an afternoon of music, food and fellowship with us on September 14. By doing so, you encourage our efforts, contribute to our only fund-raiser, support our spiritual projects, and hopefully enjoy yourself with your family and friends. Get tickets before September 7 for the first-ever SCB Men of Manresa Fellowship Day.
