SCB men prepare for July retreat at Manresa

SUGGESTIONS OFFERED FOR A MOST COMFORTABLE RETREAT

Liquid sunshine - An afternoon thunderstorm drenches Manresa, where St. Mary’s Hall is currently being renovated.

About this time last year, Manresa retreat group #29 was gearing up for their annual retreat that begins on the third Thursday in July. Manresa director Father Anthony Ostini was progressing with plans for the much-needed renovations to St. Mary’s Hall, which housed the majority of retreatants, and dozens of men from St. Charles Borromeo parish were preparing for the spiritual exercises offered during the three-day retreat.

This year, things are not much different in the preparations, but retreatants can expect to see some changes when they get to Manresa. Most noticeably, lodging in St. Mary’s Hall will be shifted to modular housing just beyond Xavier Hall. By all reports, accommodations are quite comfortable and all other aspects of the retreat should remain the same. Nevertheless, we offer the following suggestions for new retreatants and veterans alike.

Retreat co-captain Tony Ferrara suggests that since there is no covered walkway from the modular housing to the other buildings on the Manresa campus, retreatants may want to bring an umbrella for protection from afternoon thunderstorms.

He also suggests that you may want to bring an extra blanket, just in case the current air-conditioning control issues are not yet resolved.
