Very special couple relocating to Houston

Ongs leave SCB with fond memories, best wishes, and very special gift
The Lamb, September 2006
You meet a lot of people over the course of a lifetime. But you rarely, if ever, will meet a couple as nice as Lee and Theresia Ong. Unfortunately for us, this very special St. Charles Borromeo couple is moving to Houston. Sometimes, as the song says, “you don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone.”
A product of many cultures, Lee and Theresia seem to epitomize the only best characteristics of the countries where they have lived and worked over the years - which include Indonesia, the Netherlands, and the United States. They stand out in a crowd not because of aggressiveness and pompousness, but because of their gentleness and humility. Like Jesus taught us, they put others before themselves. They are considerate, insightful, and caring. Intelligent, cheerful and prayerful. Loving and faithful. Devoted. Catholic. It is therefore very sad for us to learn that they will be relocating to Houston. Lee and Theresia wrote a fond letter of farewell (shown at right) to the Men of Manresa, and included an extremely generous donation to the group. But when group leader Nick Sardegna read the letter and misinterpreted the money as back-payment of dues, he quickly had to clear things up. “We have no dues,” he said, “and there’s nothing to pay if you miss a meeting.” The Ongs clarified. “We just know that this money will go to a very good cause, if we give it to the Men of Manresa.” Hopefully, Lee, Theresia and their outstanding adult children Chris and Desiree’ will keep us updated with news and frequent visits. May God bless the Ong family in their new parish as they have blessed so many others in St. Charles Borromeo parish.![]()
