HOLIDAY MEETING

1:30 - 4:30 pm

Welcome to the Louisiana Chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.

The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators was formed in 1971 by a group of Los Angeles-based writers for children.  It is the only international organization to offer a variety of services to people who write, illustrate, or share a vital interest in children's literature. How does it work?  The SCBWI acts as a network for the exchange of knowledge between writers, illustrators, editors, publishers, agents, librarians, educators, booksellers and others involved with literature for young people. There are currently more than 19,000 members worldwide, in over 70 regions, making it the largest children's writing organization in the world.

OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

A new online magazine for young adult literature, the Young Adult Review Network (or YARN), is being launched. YARN’s mission is to publish the highest quality creative writing for young adult readers, ages 14-18, and those in other age groups who enjoy young adult lit.  Published quarterly, YARN will feature short fiction and creative essays, poetry, and an author interview.  The interactive sections will allow for comments on stories, as well as online discussions of recent YA books.  YARN distinguishes itself from other teen literary magazines by seeking to discover new teen writers and publish their work alongside those of established writers of the YA genre. The debut issue will be Winter 2010. For more information, go to www.yareview.net.

CICADA magazine has reopened submissions on a limited basis. The editors will review manuscripts from authors whose work has previously appeared in CICADA. Art samples from new illustrators are welcome. Review the guidelines before submitting. Guidelines online: http://www.cicadamag.com/submitwork/generalsubmissions

Agent News

Agent Judy Mikalonis of the Andrea Hurst & Associate Literary Management is now considering YA fiction (looking for "upbeat, fun, contemporary").  Agent Amberly Finarelli is also looking for contemporary YA novels.
