Participation in SCBWI is open to anyone with an active interest in children’s literature or media. We welcome aspiring and published writers and illustrators, librarians, educators, artists, students, dramatists, musicians, filmmakers, and others. A passion for children’s literature is the #1 criterion.

Dues in the national organization are $75 for the first year, and $60 each renewing year.

The easiest way to become a member is to register online at http://www.scbwi.org/members/join.htmIf you do not want to sign up online, you may request a membership brochure, which includes an application.  Send an email request to membership@scbwi.org with your name and mailing address, or write to SCBWI with your request (Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, 8271 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90048).

SCBWI - Louisiana Participation
We highly recommend you obtain national membership in SCBWI, but if you would like to participate in the activities of the Louisiana Chapter of SCBWI without the benefits of national membership, the fee for participating in the Louisiana Chapter is $15 per year.  Make check payable to “SCBWI” and mail to Carrel Muller Gueringer, Regional Adviser,

Not sure you want to join?  Come to one of our meetings and check us out.  We typically meet from 1:30 to 4:30 pm at the UNO Education Building (third floor, Room 305 G) on the second Saturday of each month, but visit the Calendar page of this website for any changes in schedule.  And when you come, bring something to read.  We're user-friendly.
