Apr 12-13, 1997: New London, NH Won two, lost two. Could have used more players. Game #01 ... Won by one point. Game #02 ... Lost by about six. Game #03 ... Lost by about 35-40. Game #04 ... Won by about 20.
May 01, 1997: Johnson & Wales, Providence, RI Game #05 - Won 41-27. Just six girls. Played the Shades in the "RI Shoot-Out". Shades look like a "C" team. The Breakers must be a "B" team. Won, 41-27. Fairly easy. Fox, Haddad, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
May 03, 1997: Johnson & Wales, Providence, RI Game #06 - Lost 80-38. Got beat badly, 80-38 by the Shades "A" Team. They have many of the premier players in RI High School Basketball. Eagles, McGonagle, Kane, Ercolano, Florence, Weseloh, Bell, etc. The Shades stole every pass the Breakers made in the first five minutes. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Randall, Rhodes, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
May 03, 1997: Pine Manor Junior College, Boston Game #07 - Forfeit Couldn't make afternoon game because breakers were in State Tournament at Johnson & Wales Campus in Oil Tank City, Providence. Game #08 - Lost 43-24. Ugly ride up in the fog and pouring rain. Cute campus. Outmatched again. Lost 43-24 to Vermont. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Randall, Rhodes, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
May 04, 1997: Emmmanuel College, Boston Game #09 - Lost 66-27. A fairly nice Sunday. Lost the first game big time, 66-27 to New York. Great cookout going on outside the gym. Shrimp, stuffed quahogs, Alaskan King Crab, hamburgers, chowder, salad, and on and on. Fox, Haddad, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
Game #10 - Lost 36-34. It looked like we had a chance in the second game. We were up something like 15-2 before the tide changed. Lost 36-34 to New Hampshire. The girls just wore down. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
May 10 & 11, 1997: Conn College, New London Game #11 - Won 35-33. Saturday - "THE SHOT" - Tied 33-all with about 3 seconds left, the Breakers inbounded from the left side, pushed the ball over half-court, and passed to Sarah Stanhope on the left, about 12 feet out. Her jumper, with the buzzer going off "swished" and the Breakers won, 35-33. Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Piccolo, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood. Game #12 - Won 37-30. Up 21-13 at the half, 37-30 at the end. Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Piccolo, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
Game #13 - Lost 64-29. Lindsay Piccolo went down when her ankle gave out. She made it back. The other team was very good. Aggressive, smiling, smirking, etc. Kim Richard was played very close on defense. Kayla Egan had an upset stomach. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Piccolo, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood. Game #14 - Won 42-29. Kayla Egan left before the game started. Easy win, 42-29. Lindsay Piccolo went down again with her ankle. This time she didn't make it back. Trainer says it is between a "2" and a "1" on the injury scale. Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Piccolo, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood. Conn College has a nice campus, nice union.
May 31 & Jun 01, 1997: Rutland, VT Game #15 - Lost 51-40 (Castleton State College) Saturday - Breakers could have won this game. Other team had twin towers who scored on easy turn-arounds. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood. Game #16 - Lost 62-52 Breakers played well in the first half. Were up by 37-23 at the half. You could see the momentum switch, however, just before the half. The Breakers had problems inbounding and handling the press. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
Game #17 - Won 38-34. Anna Johnson sunk some clutch free throws down the stretch to ice the victory. Kim Richard went back early to participate (band) in the MSC graduation. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood. Game #18 - Won 48-42. A bunch of three-pointers, including a four-pointer by Jen Fox, pushed the Breakers into the lead which they never gave up. Brooke Randall had to leave for a high school softball playoff game. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
Jun 07 & Jun 08, 1997: Providence, RI Game #19 - Lost 68-35. Saturday - Breakers looked bad. Played Liz Coughlin's team. Liz didn't play, resting up for fastpitch playoffs. Egan, Fox, Johnson, Piccolo, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
Game #20 - Lost 64-38. Bad passing again. Egan, Johnson, Piccolo, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood. Game #21 - Lost 50-47. Very discouraging lost. Up by 26-18 at the half. Breakers once again are outscored in the second half. Breakers seem to fall apart when the other team applies any amount of defensive pressure. Lots of bad passing. Other coach was very loud. Stanhope got a "three-pointer". Egan, Fox, Johnson, Piccolo, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
Jun 13-15, 1997: Middletown and Newport, RI Game #22 - Forfeit (Two kids are ready, two need rides, yada, yada, yada.
Game #23 - Lost 56-40. Awful game. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood. Game #24 - Lost 37-29. Better game. Chris Piasczyk filled in for coach Shippee. He's a little more vocal. Better game. The Breakers were in it until the end as things slipped away with "the fouling thing". With the scholar athlete games coming up for Kim Richard, she may have played her last game. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Randall, Richard, Stanhope, and Wood.
Game #25 - Won 60-40. South County Fun missed the first NH tournament. Excluding that, this game was the Breakers' highest output and largest margin of victory. Jen Fox was sizzle-hot the whole game, sinking many from the outside, including a gaggle of three pointers. All the kids played well. Kayla Egan looked good under the basket. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Randall, Stanhope, and Wood.
Jun 21, 1997: Northborough, MA Scrimmage #01 - Lost 34-32. A four team round robin between two Breakers teams and two "South Central" teams turned into a three team round robin. Breakers first played "South Central Blue". Close game. Tied after regulation 29-all. Played two minute overtime. Brooke Randall backed out at the last minute. Brooke was to give Jen Fox a ride. Greg Shippee also backed out at the last minute. Chris Piasczyk coached the team. Johnson, Piccolo, and Stanhope. Scrimmage #02 - Lost 47-31. Played "South Central Black" team. Johnson, Piccolo, and Stanhope. Scrimmage #03 - Won 35-29. In order not to play four straight games, the two South Central teams played before this game. Black won. Blue then turned into white and the Breakers turned into blue to play the fourth and last game of the day. Anna Johnson left before the start. Another Breaker girl left early. We played better this game and won. A parent of one of the the South Central players, a former Celtic, invited everyone over to his pool which was right in the neighborhood. It was a great cookout and the kids enjoyed getting wet in the 90+ heat. Piccolo, and Stanhope.
Jun 28-29, 1997: Moses Brown, Providence, RI Game #26 - Lost 47-41. Same old "same old". Disappointing loss. Up at the half, 29-24. Breakers even "slowed down" when up by three with about 3-plus minutes left. But the Bristol Stars turned up their defense and the Breakers quickly disintegrated. The Stars outscored the Breakers by 11 points in the second half. Are the Breakers a "morning" team? Kim Richard was at the scholar-athlete games. Were was Brooke Randall? Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Piccolo, Stanhope, and Wood. Game #27 - Lost 47-41. Five kids. Lindsay Piccolo says we were down by about 10 at the half but fought back to within two before seeing the game slip away. Mr. Wood coached as Greg works evenings. Egan, Haddad, Johnson, Piccolo, and Wood.
Game #28 - Lost 55-20. Horrible game. No offense. Eight points in the first half. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Piccolo, Stanhope, and Wood. Game #29 - Lost 53-40. Girls went to Kayla's place between games for a cookout, a dip in the pool, and some games of "rummy". Not like soccer where the coach forbids the pool breaks because it zaps your energy. Mr. Wood coached again. This was a different WesCon Fillie team than the one the Breakers played earlier. That team had the vocal woman coaching. Disappointing season (111 days) yet it was better than nothing. We'll take what we can get. Most competitors had 9-11 players while the Breakers often had 5-7. Thank you, coaches. Egan, Fox, Haddad, Johnson, Piccolo, Stanhope, and Wood.
