S.A.T.'s

To parents of students who are not naturally "sharp" ... you may
want to offer your son or daughter an incentive.
Just an example:
1200 or better = $1,000
1300 or better = $2,000
1400 or better = $3,000

Learn how to take a test ...
Ex: Without knowing the question, you can often pick the right
answer. Given the following answers, wouldn't you say "B" is most
likely the correct answer to some type of question where you
are asked to arrange something in a certain order.
  ( a ) 5-4-2-3-1
  ( b ) 5-4-3-2-1
  ( c ) 1-2-3-4-5
  ( d ) 5-4-3-1-2

Prep Courses ...
Brown Learning Center - 846-3452
CCRI - 825-2000
Kaplan - 521-3926
Alicia P. Quinn - 455-4699 or 423-1053
Princeton Review - 861-5080
Christine Reilly - 423-2599
Ronkin Educational Group - 454-5858
Sylvan Learning Center - 942-8552

Paul Tukey - 783-4873 ... Course is given in North Kingstown,
typically eight consecutive 5 hour weekly sessions. Paul is director
of college counseling at Rocky Hill and does the English half. (His
daughter, Melissa, is a 1998 Rocky Hill graduate with a 98.8 average
and will attend Harvard. A bad day for her was getting a 97.6 grade
on a test.) David Neilan, who does the math side, teaches at Waynflete
in Portland, Maine. The cost in March, 1998, was $275.

URI College of Continuing Education - 792-2288
Also ... Books, software, and videos.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships
The info here is based on newspaper articles, South Kingstown High School handouts, and a quick skim of some scholarship files. It's very unofficial and surely incomplete. It's always undergoing revision as more news comes in.

Some of this stuff may apply only to South Kingstown High School. As is done here, some high schools, like SKHS, classify scholarships in four different ways. Name sorts are inconsistent.

Warning: Don't ever pay anyone to find a scholarship for you.

Is your high school on line? If not, why not? IDS (and probably other ISP's) will give you free web space. Then you can post your school bulletins and scholarship information so parents can easily search for information. There's probably even parents who are willing to volunteer to do much of the work.

How is nationality determined? ... as, for example, in those scholarships where one must be of African-American descent to qualify. What would those (seemingly) white people who are the product of a union between Thomas Jefferson and one of his black slaves have to show to qualify? Is there a certain percentage involved?
