We're taking a long vacation. Yes, indeed! Karen and I are starting Fridaynoon on what we call our personal "Reclamation Project"--an effort toreclaim some portion of our lives from our work. This particular project is
a Phoenix-to-coast-to-othercoast-to-Phoenix low culture odyssey on a couple Harleys: Karen on a Heritage Softail Classic and I on a Road King Classic--as Karen has noted, classics on Classics. High points of the trip
include such wonders as Fort Dodge, Graceland, Rock City, Atlantic City, Niagara Falls, the Corn Palace, Wall Drug, Mt. Rushmore, Carhenge, and who knows what other glories of the west before we finish in Las Vegas as the last stop before home. It's blue highways all the way because it's about riding. Neither of us is very focused on work at the moment.

Of course, this means that I will be setting my own WPA-L account to NOMAIL until sometime around June 18. And just as home security companies often hire former cat burglars as consultants, I have asked my new colleague and infamous list pirate Barry Maid to stand in as listowner for the duration. Barry has been know to hijack discussion lists and sail them off to figurative Cuba while other participants are away at conferences. But it's hard to be a list pirate now when everybody at a conference has a laptop and modem in their hotel rooms, and Barry has folded his Jolly Roger. He will be responsible for maintaining order and for managing account problems. His email address is barry.maid@asu.edu. Help him adjust to civilian life,

Meanwhile, if you hear a low rumble and see a flash of chrome in your town, don't be too alarmed. It might just be Dave and Karen reclaiming life and lives.
