Sadly, Marty once again gets snubbed at the Oscars, with Million Dollar Baby winning Best Picture and Clint Eastwood winning Best Director. However, The Aviator did win five Oscars: Best Supporting Actress, Cate Blanchett; Art Direction, Dante Ferretti/Francesca Lo Schiavo; Cinematography, Robert Richardson; Costume Design, Sandy Powell; and Editing, Thelma Schoonmaker. NEW, 12/28/2004--Newspaper and magazine reviews of The Aviator

The Aviator receives the Los Angeles Film Critics Association award for Best Production (Dante Ferretti), and two runner-up awards: Marty was runner-up for Best Director (the Director winner was Alexander Payne for Sideways) and Cate Blanchett was runner-up for Supporting Actress for both The Aviator and Coffee and Cigarettes (the winner for Supporting Actress was Virginia Madsen for Sideways). The Aviator to be released December 17, 2004 in New York City and Los Angeles, opens nationwide December 25, 2004.

Gangs of New York now out on DVD (July 1, 2003).

Gangs of New York totally shut out at Academy Awards after receiving 10 nominations. In the major categories, the Best Picture went to Chicago, the Best Director went to Roman Polanski for The Pianist, Best Actor went to Adrian Brody for The Pianist and Best Original Screenplay went to Pedro Almodovar for Talk to Her.
