PowerToys & TweakUI -- WinXP
Windows XP was released in the Autumn of 2001 and as it turns out, is a pretty good operating system. Well then, in the time honored Windows tradition, that means it's time to enhance it with TweakUI. As always, the PowerToys are not supported so don't go crying to Microsoft if you break your WinXP installation. This version of the PowerToys is exclusively for WinXP, so go get it and enjoy!

TweakUI -- Win2K, WinNTx, WinME, Win9x
WinME and Windows 2000 have been around for a little while now, but they can stand some juicing up. Win9x and NTx are old hat so they need something to keep you interested. Ok then, let's tweak `em. Let's tweak them all! And what better place to start than with TweakUI? Microsoft recently released a new version, 1.33, for all 32-bit Windows builds (not for Windows 3.x and Windows XP though), so go get it and enjoy!

A funky tweaker. My buddy Bobstur indirectly directed me to my favorite kind of util in the whole entire world. This one, called TClockEX, can modify the Windows system tray clock as well as many other cool tweaks. Version 1.4.2 has recently been released.

WinDUH! -- Win9x
Here's a blast from the past. One of the early Win95 tweaker programs that I used was WinDUH, a simple little tweaker that also works with Win98. It has some great features like assigning sound to certain events in Windows, and more. This utility has become very hard to find. You can still download it though at this site, about two-thirds of the way down the page.

More Properties 2.0 -- Win95, WinNT4
I owe all you grizzled tweakers out there a big apology. More Properties 2.0 has been around since forever for Win95 and WinNT4 users (it works passably well with Win98 too) and it's a great little util with some very handy features. It should have been posted here sooner.

CDex -- Win9x
Do you enjoy listening to MP3s while computing? I have many CDs and it would be convenient to rip some of this music into MP3s on my HDD and listen while I compute. But how can you do this you ask? CDex is a superb freeware util made just for this purpose. Version 1.30 is the current release, but version 1.40 is well along in its beta cycle. Reviews of CDex have nothing but high praise. Download it and get to rippin'.

It allows your computer to be more friendly - more "Mac like". Another Task Manager v3.0 -- Win9x, WinME
Here's a freeware util for you power users out there. Another Task Manager provides a real-time capability to monitor all processes and threads, used memory, their CPU usage, execution time and much, much more. This is far more comprehensive than the Resource Meter or Task Monitor provided with Win9x, or even than the Task Monitor provided with Win2K. The latest version is ATM v3.0.

XrX Add Bar -- Win9x
There is a new beta of one of the most interesting little specialty utilities I have ever come across. XrX Add Bar utility allows you to create professional type Logo.sys files. All you need is the appropriate picture formatted correctly. XrX will insert the moving "wave" at the bottom in any color combination you choose.

WinLogo Changer v1.2 -- Win9x
All around swell guy James P. Girard sent word of a few of his choice freeware utils. I agree. These are winners. One of the best fun utils on Jim's list is WinLogo Changer v1.2. This util will convert BMP,JPEG,JPG,GIF images to proper logo format automatically, and it saves the original. Make your own splash screen then look into XrX Addbar listed above to complete the effect.

All The Time for Windows v3.51 -- Win9x, WinNTx, Win2K
This is an old favorite of mine. All The Time for Windows v3.51 is one of the best little of its type I've ever come across. It's a customizable clock, but in addition to the current time and the date, it can also monitor memory, disk and system resource levels, as well as printer activity. A glowing Orb can be used to check your system's status at a glance. Hey, glowing orbs! Clocks! What more can you ask?

Qlock -- Win9x, WinNTx, WinME, Win2K
Qlock v1.44 is a stylish, simple yet powerful world clock. It allows you to create multiple clock faces from a selection of over 500 countries, each of which can have customized color schemes, sizes, alarms and display options. Qlock is a very nice and useful little freeware. Especially handy for those of you that post to forums. You can quickly see what time it is in any number of locations around the world.
