Distinguished Eagle Scouts

 The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA) was established in 1969. It is granted to those Eagle Scouts who received 
 the Eagle Scout rank 25 or more years ago, have gained status of fame or eminence in their life work, and have 
 shared their talents with their communities on a voluntary basis. 

 The award is granted by the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) upon nomination by a local council and selection 
 by a committee of nationally prominent DESA recipients.

 Presented here are those who have received the award through December 31, 2006, plus a small number of others I happen 
 to know about.  Their Eagle Scout class is indicated.  The asterisk (*) indicates their acceptance of membership on 
 on the NESA Board of Regents.  The double asterisk (**) indicates they are deceased.

 As of 2006, about 1.8 million Scouts have been presented the Eagle Scout award, while only about 1,300 have been  
 awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout award (about 1 in 1000 of all Eagle Scouts).
