San Diego Button Club lost a dear member:

   Helen Brand (December 2. 1909 - April 25, 2009)

Helen Norton Brand, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Saturday. April 25, 2009, at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah. Iowa, following a short illness. She had recently celebrated her l00th birthday with family members and friends from Decorah and the Eastern Star Home. 
Helen Norton Brand was born on December 2, 1908, the daughter of Alec and Hazel (Shepherd) Coomber in Los Angeles, California. Helen attended school in Los Angeles, receiving a BA at UCLA in Education. Helen taught school in California and in Oregon. Helen married James C. Norton, Jr.; they were married for forty-eight years. After his death, she married Herb Brand and they were married for twenty-three years. Helen moved to Decorah six years ago to be near her son, Robert. Helen was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, PEO and the San Diego Button Club. Helen always reminded people that she was "a water skier", but she was so much more than that.


Joan Helton brought a beautiful floral and picture display in memory of Helen.

Income: Button collection sale -- $222.00. Raffle -- $36.00. Total Income -- $258.00.
Expenses: Rent -- $40.00. CSBS Ways & Means -- $386.00. Mat board for CSBS Borders Display -- $32.59. Book for Library -- $66.00.  Total Expenses -- $524.59.

 
Ways and Means, Joan:  Raffle Button -- Nancy V. donated the raffle buttons today, a Pad Back Drum button won by Rosemary and a La Mode Garden Set Card won by Merlyn.  Raffle made $41.

Heather signed up to bring the raffle button for July.

Committee Reports:
VP/Library:
Library Report -- Genny returned the new Czech Glass Button book. Joan checked it out for June. Sandy J. checked out the Wisniewski button book.
Change in park rules -- there will be a $5.00 per hour charge for the room starting in July. Our $40.00 per monthly meeting, which more than covers this charge, will continue. National Button Convention:  Denver, August 3-8. 2009 is the 68th anniversary of the California Button Club (1941).

The work party at Nancy Varah's, June 23rd, was well attended and enjoyed by all.   Thanks Nancy.
