Instructions for Preparing for the SDIVSL 2009 State Qualifying Tournaments:

- Be sure that CHSSA dues have been paid. Assessment forms and $ must be sent by certified mail to and received by Area 4 Chair, Suzanne Munsell. Assessment forms can be downloaded from the CHSSA website.

-Be sure that SDIVSL dues and outstanding balances have been paid. If your school has an outstanding balance, it must be paid with State Quals entry fees at the Debate Qualifier. You can request the status of your account by contacting SDIVSL Treasurer, Candace Hamilton .

-Download and copy for your students the coversheets, which must be filled out, with all the applicable signatures, for each manuscript. Be sure to get these from your students early, as each manuscript requires signatures from you and an administrator from your school

-Coaches of debaters must rank and rate their debaters on their entry forms. Please list in order of strength (strongest first) and give a rating 1-5. 5 indicates a VERY strong debater - one of the best in our league. 3 is a moderately skilled debater, who holds his/her own, but is not one of our strongest. 1 might indicate a novice or a debater who is just getting going or who is struggling. This will ensure that the best debaters in the league will not hit one another too early in the tournament.

-Coaches with Lincoln Douglas and Policy Debaters, email your Debate Qualifer Entry to the Vice President-Debate by 3:30 pm on Tuesday, February 17.

-All coaches must attend the League meeting at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 21 at La Costa Canyon High School (during Debate Qualifiers). To this meeting bring: entries for the IE Qualifying Tournament and Congress/Parli/Public Forum Qualifying Tournament, fees for all qualifying tournaments, any outstanding league dues and fees, and manuscripts with coversheets. All coaches will be expected to participate in the reading/reviewing of manuscripts at this meeting.

-All coaches with students that are semifinalists and/or finalists in any event over the three weekends must attend the sign off meeting scheduled for 7:30 pm on Saturday, March 7 (directly following the awards ceremony at Carlsbad High School).
