THE METROPOLITAN OPERA NATIONAL COUNCIL

PROUDLY ANNOUNCES THE WINNERS OF THE 2009 AUDITIONS

The judges picked the following three finalists to compete in the Western Regional Auditions:

Soprano Sharin Apostolou

Mezzo-Soprano Marina Boudart

Mezzo-Soprano Maria Dominique Lopez

 Encouragement awards were given to four singers:

The Dorothy Haugh Greiner Award of $300 was given to Mezzo-Soprano Alexandra Noelle Rodrick

The NATS San Diego Chapter Award of $250 was given to Soprano Raechele Hans

The Robert Faulk Award of $250 was given to Tenor Christian Sanders

The Award In Memory of Dr. Charles Henkelmann of $250 was given to Bass Baritone Austin James Thompson

The Audience Choice Award provided by Lynne Friedmann in memory of Henry Timpani

was given to Soprano Sharin Apostolou

The auditions were held Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the Birch North Park Theater, Home of Lyric Opera San Diego

This year's judges were

John Baril, Anthony Dean Griffey, and Danielle Orlando

The winners of the San Diego District auditions will go on to the

Western Region Auditions to be held November 7 & 8 at

Bovard Auditorium, USC, Los Angeles

Winners of the Regional Auditions will compete at the

National Grand Semi-Finals and National Grand Finals Concert

to be held in March of 2010

at the Metropolitan Opera, New York City
