AUDITION APPLICATION INFORMATION FOR SINGERS
SAN DIEGO DISTRICT
In the San Diego District the 2009-2010 Auditions will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Birch North Park Theater, 2891 University Ave., San Diego. Individual oral evaluations for participating singers will be held following the announcement of the winners. (Note that unique to the MONC auditions, each competitor is offered the special opportunity of meeting with and receiving feedback directly from each judge).
After completion of the District Auditions, the Regional Preliminaries will take place on Saturday, November 7, 2009 in Newman Hall on the campus of USC, Los Angeles. The Finals will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 8, 2009 in USC’s spectacular Bovard Auditorium.
To be eligible for the 2009-2010 auditions, applicants must be 20-30 years old from August 1, 2009 through July 31, 2010 – which means that the auditioner’s birth date must fall between August 1, 1979 and July 31, 1989 (inclusive). Also any non-United States (U.S.) or Canadian citizen must show proof of one-year residency or full-time enrollment in a U.S. or Canadian university or conservatory before being permitted to enter any MONC District audition.
Singers applying for the 2009-2010 San Diego District MONC competition must include a non-refundable fee of $30.00 in the form of a check or money order (payable to MONC / San Diego District in U.S funds only) as well as a photocopy of legal proof of age. Qualifying legal documents include a birth certificate, government-issued passport or a driver’s license. Also the San Diego District MONC requests a resume and an 8” x 10” photo if this is available.
Please note that all singers auditioning for the MONC competition should read the “Governing Regulations” section on the back of the application and pay attention to the exact dates singers must be available to progress to the Western Regional Preliminaries (Saturday November 7, 2009) and Finals (Sunday November 8, 2009) in Los Angeles and to the MONC National Semi-Finals (Sunday, March 7, 2010) and the Grand Finals (Sunday March 14, 2010) in New York. Each application must be completed by the singer – typed or printed clearly and signed on the back. Mail the main form and copies of the required legal documents to Joan Henkelmann at 3164 Casa Blanca Court, Bonita, CA 91902. If the applicant so chooses, he or she may scan the main form and required legal documents and email them to henkelma@aol.com.
Electronic documents must be received on or by Monday October 5, 2009. Paper applications must be postmarked on or by Saturday, October 3, 2009 (to be received by the San Diego District Director at the address above by Monday, October 5, 2009). PLEASE NOTE THAT ONLY THE FIRST 40 APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. No application is considered complete until all documents and the $30.00 non-refundable fee are received.
