3 LPs, 1 Eva-Tone soundsheet, 2 G.I. Joe VHS tapes, 2 Sega Genesis games, 1 Ronald McDonald cassette

My thrifting sickness is now strong enough to overcome my actual, physical sicknesses. Due to some mystery illness, I took off half a day of work yesterday and all of today - but the fever and congestion couldn't stop me from perusing a nearby (sort of) thrift store when I peeled myself out of bed to get a bite to eat. Here's what I found at the Goodwill on Clearview Parkway in New Orleans (left to right, top to bottom):

01. Girlschool - Hit and Run (LP)

One of the first all-female heavy metal/hard rock outfits, Girlschool is silly cock-rock brought to you by people without cocks. Hit and Run is the sophomore effort (first one released in the US, however) from these British gals.

All of the full-size albums at this particular Goodwill are 59 cents; the 45s are 39 cents. When I went up to pay for my stuff, the girl behind the counter asked, "What are these, 45s?" I know I could've saved a whole twenty cents per album by saying "yes", but I just couldn't do it. Anyway, pretty good prices, less than stellar selection.

02. Linda Ronstadt - Hasten Down the Wind (LP)

Apparently I've become a collector of sexy album covers (I'm always the last one to know about these things,) because that's the only way I can explain my picking this one up. Have a closer look:

The pretentiousness of a title like Hasten Down the Wind just melts away once my eyes naturally affix themselves to Ms. Ronstadt's perky, pokey breasts, covered in some sort of revealing mummy gauze. Of course, that wouldn't be much if she looked like Don Knotts from the neck up, but she's absolutely adorable here - lips slightly parted, head turned to the side with a forlorn look in her eye. Lovely.

03. Hi Neighbor (LP)

The small print underneath the title of the album reads "Songs and Dances from five countries being assisted by the United Nations Children's Fund". They all appear to be children's songs, sung by children. Here are the tracks, and their country of origin:

01a. Cradle Song - Burma

01b. The Rose-Apple Gatherers - Burma

01c. The Flower-Sellers - Burma

01d. Wingaba - Burma

02. El Mishito - Guatemala

03a. Count Olinos - Spain

03b. Quisiera Ser Tan Alto - Spain

03c. Arroyo Claro - Spain

03d. Rin Rin - Spain

04. Eid Saghir holiday song - Sudan

05. birthday song from Egyptian film "Yasmin" - United Arab Emirates

06. Saung (The Harp) - Burma

07. Son Chapin - Guatemala

08. El Que Quiera Ir Al Rocio - Spain

09. My Little Butterfly - Sudan

10. Maana Rayal (also from "Yasmin") - United Arab Emirates

04. G.I. Joe Volume 7: Captives of Cobra (VHS)

   Leather-clad dominatrix, The Baroness

I can't resist anything G.I. Joe, so I picked up two Rhino Home Video G.I. Joe collections for two dollars a piece. This one features fan-favorite The Baroness on the cover and contains two episodes: Captives of Cobra parts 1 and 2. Yes, they're Baroness-heavy episodes.

05. G.I. Joe Volume 1: Worlds Without End (VHS)

    My first crush, Lady Jaye

And here's Volume 1. Episodes include Worlds Without End parts 1 and 2. This is the one where Steeler, Clutch, and Grunt decide to stay in an alternate dimension where Cobra has decisively beaten the Joes. Nobody missed them.

06. Sonic Spinball (Sega Genesis)

So this is a pinball game, but with Sonic the Hedgehog and friends. Hm. Say, does anyone remember that Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon where Urkel was the voice of Sonic? Boy, that was just great. Sigh. Anyway, I doubt this game can even touch Pinbot for the NES. Oh, today's Genesis carts cost me three bucks a piece.

07. Sonic & Knuckles (Sega Genesis)

Basically Sonic 4, Sonic & Knuckles contains a built-in cartridge slot on top for use with the first three Sonic games. Lock 'em on, and you can unlock all sorts of special bonus features, including playing as Knuckles (a totally radical red echidna) in Sonic 1-3. How exciting!

08. McDonald's That's my Ronald cassette (1997)

Not funny or even creepy... just irritating. May be good for cutting up and placing into a sound collage. I tried to look up some information on this thing, but all I could find were middle-aged women trying to convince me that this tape is RARE and worth FIVE DOLLARS. Songs include: That's My Ronald, Eggs-actly What's Inside, The Treasure Map Song, Save The Aliens, and That's My Ronald (reprise). Fifty cents.

09. London Murder Mystery Game Sound Effects record (1985)

This Eva-Tone soundsheet is for use with the murder mystery game London, apparently. Here is the record in its entirety: starts off with some snooty classical music followed by a gunshot and sounds of general panic. Then some bored-sounding old guy says, "Master Timothy has been shot. He may be dead. Please help yourselves to the sherry. Thank you very much." That's it.
