01. Mamiya ZE-2 SLR camera

I haven't used any of my "film-based" cameras in a long time, preferring the convenience and cost-efficiency of a few digital ones instead - but I saw this thing for $4.99 at the Goodwill on Clearview Parkway today and I just couldn't pass it up at such a ridiculous price. Ridiculous, that is, if it doesn't turn out to be broken. I plan on buying some film for it tomorrow and taking it out for a night on the town. It's a bit of a cliche, but there's something special about a big clunky SLR that you just can't get from a digital camera. I think it has to do with the shutter click. What a great sound.

Special Bonus!!  That's my trusty Zebra M-301 mechanical pencil propping the Mamiya up a bit so that I can get a better angle on the photo.

SuperSpecial Bonus!!  Mamiya ZE-series info.

02. Five LPs

All of these punks were 79 cents at the same Goodwill on Clearview Parkway in Harahan, a suburb of New Orleans. That's right, come on down to scenic Harahan and take your pick from the huge selection of look-alike strip malls, look-alike chain restaurants, and look-alike office buildings! Like they say in Harahan: "Work here and get out as fast as you can at 5 o'clock!" Harahan! Yeah!!

01. Led Zeppelin - III (Atlantic - 1970)

I dig most of the radio songs, but I've never really been interested enough in Led Zeppelin to check out a whole album. That said, cheap vinyl goes a long way in expanding one's musical horizons. Features "Immigrant Song", "Gallows Pole", and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp".

02. Black Sabbath - Paranoid (Warner Bros. - 1971)

Even if I didn't love this shit, I would've bought it just for the cover art, which is hands-down the WORST and BEST album cover of all time. Just look at this madness:

A man in baggy superhero pajamas with a motorcycle helmet, a shield and a laser sword jumping out at you in triplicate from the dark woods and WHAT THE FUCK?? It's retarded genius and I love it.

03. Foreigner - Records (Atlantic - 1982)

This greatest hits compilation is all the Foreigner you'll ever need to own. Every single track is what you want to hear when you want to hear Foreigner. And you fucking want to hear Foreigner. Check it:

01. Cold as Ice

02. Double Vision

03. Head Games

04. Waiting for a Girl Like You

05. Feels Like the First Time

06. Urgent

07. Dirty White Boy

08. Juke Box Hero

09. Long, Long Way From Home

10. Hot Blooded

None of that "I Wanna Know What Love Is" crap, just the straight dope. Except for track 9. Did I mention track 9? It's horrible.

04. Cledus Maggard & The Citizen's Band - White Knight (Mercury - 1976)

Watered-down trucker music designed to cash in on the C.B. radio craze of the 70s. BJ & The Bear and all that. From the back cover: "Jay Huguely, Cledus Maggard, The White Knight, or whoever he may be at the moment, is a funny, funny man. In this album, you'll meet and be delighted by just a few of Jay's C.B. buddies, who will immediately become buddies of yours. So mercy day, breaker breaker, for a short, short and a loooong cup of coffee with the cotton picker from Quick Sand, Kentucky, Jay Huguely, whoever he may be. And that's a big Ten-Four."  Featuring a bunch of lame comedy-country and upon closer inspection of the cover, this jackass:

05. Krush Groove  Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Warner Bros. - 1985)

Some say Krush Groove is the seminal old-school hip hop movie. It parallels the early years of Def Jam records and features acts like the Fat Boys, Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C. I haven't seen the movie yet, but the soundtrack is a sweet slice of hip hop circa '85.
