01. Sega Master System

I'd say about 1 out of every 20 kids had a Sega Master System instead of an NES back when I was a wee lad. The SMS just wasn't very popular in the States (it sold better than the NES in Europe, however,) and the only time I can remember playing one is when I had a go at Choplifter for about five minutes at a friend's birthday party in elementary school. I suppose I'll have more to say about the Master System if and when I end up finding some games (and cables and joypads) for it. $4.88 at America's Thrift Store.

Say, just for fun, geekiness and additional, unnecessary content why don't I list the game consoles in my collection? Won't that just be a hoot?  Consoles marked (T) are ones I found at a thrift store or flea market. In no particular order:

01. Sega Master System (T) - You're looking at it. Freaks and outcasts owned this system as kids and were shunned by society at large.

02. Nintendo Entertainment System (T) - Replacement for broken original one. I was raised on the NES - it's a given that it's one of my favorites.

03. Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Another one of my all-time favorite systems, and one of the best consoles of all time.

04. Sega Genesis ver.1 (T) - Replacement for lost original one. The Genesis never clicked with me like the NES or SNES did, but it's still a great system.

05. Sega Genesis ver.2 (T) - I liked the original design better.

06. Sega Genesis ver.3 (T) - Shit's tiny!

07. Atari 2600 (T) - What can I say about the 2600 that hasn't already been said? It just is.

08. Magnavox Odyssey^2 (T) - The graphics are even blockier than the 2600, but it's nice to have in the collection.

09. Nintendo Game Boy - The original brick.

10. Nintendo Game Boy Color - Excellent handheld that I still play the shit out of. I'll buy an SP when they start showing up in the thrift stores...

11. Sega Dreamcast - As I've said before, probably the most underappreciated console of all time. One of my faves, and should be one of yours too.

12. Sega Saturn (T) - Mostly lame, but with a few good games.

13. Sega Game Gear (T) - Basically a handheld Master System.

14. Nintendo 64 (T) - Truthfully, I've really only played Super Mario 64 on this thing since I got it, but what a fun game.

15. Playstation - PSOne redesign. I had the original one too, but at some point I sold it for drug rent money. Worth it for the huge game library alone.

16. Playstation 2 - I only have a few games for the PS2, and the only ones I've played extensively are GTA3 and Vice City. I suppose I'll spring for San Andreas once the price goes down.

17. Turbografx-16 - Got this along with the CD module when it first came out and was ridiculously expensive. Not a great game library, but still one of my sentimental favorites.

18. Atari Jaguar (T) - Just picked this one up the other day. No games as of yet.

19. Colecovision - My very first console (thanks, Mom!) and a system that was ahead of its time with eight bits in 1983.

20. Commodore 64 - I'm including a computer for three reasons: 1) I mostly used it to play games, 2) it was one of the best home systems ever, console or otherwise, and 3) to make the list a nice even 20.

And now, here's my wish list - mostly made up of consoles that are prohibitively expensive due to their collectibility...

01. Turbografx-16 Turbo Express - Portable TG16! Uses the same game cards and everything.

02. Turbografx-16 CD or Turbo Duo - My mom actually shelled out the 400 bucks for the TG-CD when it came out (thanks again, Mom!) but it hasn't worked in a long time and I've lost the unit that mounts the CD player onto the TG16. I actually used the CD unit itself as a car CD player (plugged into the cigarette lighter and hooked up to tiny little speakers) for awhile...

03. Neo Geo - The official system of spoiled rich kids whose parents can afford 200 dollar games.

04. Sega CD - Not expensive, just haven't found one in the wild yet. Mostly shitty games, but a few gems like Lunar 1 & 2, Snatcher and Heart of the Alien - which unfortunately are expensive.

05. Atari Lynx - Something about this handheld underdog intrigues me. I've never even played one.

06. Every Other System Ever Made - I mean, that's the eventual goal, right?

02. Random Atari cable

Yeah, I'm so gay for the Atari logo that I bought some random cable for a system I don't even own because it had one branded on it. I'm assuming this is for one of the Atari 8-bit computers which I'd eventually like to own anyway. 10 cents at ATS.
