I AM A TYPEFACE & Font junkie. As such, I incorporated some very specific typefaces into this site. If you have any interest in seeing the site as I envisioned it, I urge you to visit the first two links on this page.

<www.microsoft.com/typography
/fontpack/default.htm>

MICROSOFT’S DOWNLOAD PAGE FOR their free webfonts, available for Macintosh and PC platforms. I especially recommend Georgia, a variable width Roman typeface with serifs, and Verdana, a variable width typeface sans serif, both designed by Matthew Carter. Mr. Carter took two years to create these typefaces, which he carefully hinted, giving plenty of space between letters, along with sufficient “x” height to be read at lower resolutions.

THIS WEB PAGE USES these faces as its default, as do many other well designed web pages. Do yourself a favour and download and install them and set your browser to use one of them as default; your pages, starting with this one, will dramatically improve in appearance and legibility. By the way, I use Andale Mono, also available in this pack, as my default monospaced type when viewing the World Wide Web. Another fine monotype in the pack is New Courier, which is a great improvement over the native Macintosh font Courier.

HISTORICAL NOTE: MICROSOFT HAS discontinued their web font programme; all new Windows® machines ship with these fonts; Macintosh and Linux users should download them from HERE (don’t worry; it’s a legal download.)

THE SHEER POTTERY SECTION of my site looks best using an old typewriter typeface. The default typeface, Fox Script, can be downloaded from this site, or Mac users can download it HERE by holding down the mouse button and saving as source, while PC losers users can get it HERE by right-clicking and saving as source. The files download as compressed files and need to be uncompressed with Stuffit® on Macs or a .zip utility on PCs. These utilities are widely distributed on the World Wide Web; go get ’em!

IF YOU DOWNLOAD EITHER these files or the Microsoft® files listed above you are bound by all legal requirements thereof; please read the Read Me files included with them.

COMPREHENSIVE VENDOR FOR ELECTRONIC type. If they don’t have it, they tell you where to get it.

<www.a4.net>

A SWEDISH SITE WITH many well made typefaces available at no charge.

<www.fontdiner.com>

GREAT VENDOR OF RETRO-KITSCHY fonts, ranging from ’twenties Art Deco fonts to ’fifties diner fonts to ’sixties Las Vegas motel fonts. Also links to <www.braineaters.com>, a sister web site for creepy monster movie style fonts. Both sites offer free fonts, as well as commercial fonts.
