LATE SUMMER OR EARLY Autumn 2000 I borrowed a home improvement book from my sister, Kim. I was doing a minor electrical wiring project, and I needed some reference material to keep me from electrocuting myself. While researching the electrical project, I noted a project called A Showcase for Your Books: The Home Library.
THE PROJECT USED MODULAR construction and could be built using relatively inexpensive materials, e.g., plywood, so I thought, “What the hey; I can do that.” So, in a fit of mid-life crisis, I began to indebt myself to Home Depot™ . I bought block planes, levels, cordless drivers and assorted other Big Boy Toys over the Internet. Ebay™ was good to me, and I was good to Ebay™.
OVER THE COURSE OF the next year
I spent most of my spare time sawing, gluing, pounding and
driving. You can see the results below. The pictures are not
recent, so you should note that, in the meantime, furniture has
been moved, bookshelves rearranged, houseplants have died and
electronics have come and gone, e.g., the 27" Philips™
CRT television has been replaced by a 30" Sharp™ flat
panel LCD television. Oh, and the bicycle is now in the garage,
and has painted fenders instead of chrome. Someday I’ll update
the pictures, but this’ll do for now.
