Now the Fuji America is a modified Tour Easy as seen at http://easyracers.com Plans were secured on the web and parts were obtained from 4 local bike shops With a stiff tailwind it hit 36.2 mph for a few moments in the configuration shown below... WOW! My son's bike above and to the right is a modified Schwinn.
Some say this is a bit wild... fairings are made of 4mm coroplast which is light & inexpensive. The aerodynamics help maintain a comfortable 20 - 22mph. Just a rearview of the aerodynamic trunk! The trunk easily holds tools, lunch, a change of clothes and a laptop! This bike has been a work in progress...
now the rear cassette is an 8 speed 11-32 For sale for $1100! A new one will run you approx $2000 not counting tax. I have built a new one so I will need to sell this one. The front fairing was redone for about the 3rd time... This sacrificed 1-2 mph max speed but gave tremendous stability even in bad cross winds. I rode one day in a storm with 40 mph gusts! It gets a bit difficult in winds like this but I was able to ride 20 mph with a 30 mph sustained side wind! I have taken the bike around corners at 27 mph so the handling is really great! The finished weight was about 34.5 lbs before adding the lights, the triple horn, mirror, speedometer, water bottle carriers, etc. photos below is when it was run in a parade... With the configuration below, I have had it to over 36 mph on the flat road in town! My 16 mile commute times vary from 50 minutes to 1 hour depending on my how energetic I am feeling! My personal best was at 47 minutes! This includes time sitting at stop lights! This bike will fit an average person from 5'6" to 6' +/- an inch or so. I do really enjoy the bike but with 2 recumbents, I really need to start
letting go so I can build another... |
