The public loved the comic hillbilly family, and so did the sponsors. Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Martha White Flour, Rainbo Bread, Fab detergent and others all advertised on the program. Mountain Dew fit in particularly well due to its marketing back then as a homebrewed white lightnin' kind of soft drink with a mountaineer on the bottle.

Pa Tide (Roy Lemon) was a favorite on the show due to his unique style of piano playing, floppy hat and corn cob pipe.

Bill Purcell (Tongue Tide) had been playing music and traveling with bands for some time before teaming up with Gordon Reid (Ebb) and Roy Lemon (Pa) creating the Tide Family.

Drummer Jay Dillon watches Bill and Gordon perform. The stand up bass was the perfect musical instrument to complement the lanky frame of Gordon (Ebb Tide).

Never pick up hitchhikers.
