I would like to let you know about a
wonderful ministry we ladies have at Sharon Baptist Church. It’s called
Women’s Missionary Fellowship (WMF). We help minister to our missionaries
and our shut-ins. I will do my best to explain a little of what we do in
the following paragraphs.
We have a few meetings a year and
they are announced in the bulletin. The meetings are meant to be
informative and bring encouragement to one another. At present the church
helps to support 71 missionaries. One of these is supported by the teens.
In September we have our big
meeting. We have a meal and devotion first. Then we assemble small
packages for the missionary’s Christmas gift. Each person will choose which
missionary(s) they want individually to pray for and send cards of
encouragement to. The missionary's prayer letter is sent to the church and
I make a copy and give it to you. The original is posted on the mission’s
board in alphabetical order. I do try to give you an info sheet on your
missionaries. This helps you get to know them a little better.
In November we host the
Craft/Bake Auction which is held the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The church
always has a Thanksgiving Dinner that day and the auction is afterwards.
All the crafts and baked goods are donated and all the proceeds go to get
special things for the missionaries. It pays for the cost of mailing the
boxes of stuff to them as well. If you haven’t been to this event you are
really missing a blessing. The whole church is involved and we all have a
lot of fun. It’s never too soon to start thinking on what you can make for
the auction. Some people say they are not creative or don’t sew. Well here
is a cool idea. Get a basket and decide on a theme and put things in it
accordingly! We try to display some of the items a week before the auction
to get people’s attention.
When there are visiting
missionaries we give them a little care basket/tote bag. Betty Caldwell
takes care of making these up. We donate items, as Betty needs them.
We have about 6 shut-ins at the
moment. As a group we do something special for them a couple of times a
year. Each person on their own sends them cards of encouragement, visits,
and calls.
I ask the ladies to keep their
eyes open for “dirt-cheap” bargains on seasonal items. Also at yard sales
things like note cards and unused decorations can be found very
inexpensively. Many missionaries ask for these things. If you should find
such items and can donate them please do so.
If you have any questions
? or ideas
Mplease
let me know
!
I believe this is the basic
highlights about WMF. I look forward to our fellowship as we assist the
missionaries in their service to our Lord. Thank you.
In Christ, Gail Klaiss
