Ways to Escape an Abductor

  1. If an abductor gets you in his car, do anything you can to cause an accident or attract attention. (step on the gas, or the brake if you are in traffic, pull the steering wheel, hit the horn).
  2. If your abductor takes you inside a store, shoplift and make sure someone sees you. When you are confronted, you can ask for help.
  3. If you get access to a phone, even for a few seconds, call 911.
  4. If you are in the trunk of the car, most new cars have release latches. If not, pull out all the wires you can get your hands on. If the brake-lights go out, the abductor has a good chance of getting pulled over. Scream, kick, and bang as loud as you can anytime the car stops.
  5. Jam something in the ignition of the car if it’s not already started, buttons, a dime, gum – anything you can find. If they can’t start the car, they can’t get far.
  6. If you stop in a bathroom (at a rest-stop, gas station, etc.) write your name and a call 911 message, if you can remember it, write the license plate of the car.
  7. Any time you are out of the car or around people, don’t be afraid to scream "this is not my mom or dad, call 911" or "I’ve been kidnapped, call 911" and run away. No matter what you have been threatened, you are in more danger if you don’t try.
